Overview
Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud. Within CO&I, the Datacenter Engineering, Procurement, Project Controls and Construction (EPC) team is responsible for delivering the core infrastructure that powers Microsoft's cloud services. The EPC portfolio consists of large-scale, multi-disciplinary, complex datacentre projects delivered across multiple regions and countries. We are seeking a highly experienced Power Delivery Director to lead a team responsible for the end-to-end delivery of utility power infrastructure supporting Microsoft's datacentre portfolio. This leader will oversee Energy Project Leads (EPLs) who are accountable for delivering power capacity from initial utility engagement and connection agreements through design, permitting, procurement, construction, energisation, testing, and handover to Datacenter Operations. The successful candidate will combine strong leadership, programme management, stakeholder management, utility engagement, and infrastructure delivery expertise to ensure the reliable and timely delivery of critical power infrastructure supporting Microsoft's growing cloud footprint.
Responsibilities
Team Leadership Lead, coach, develop, and grow a team of Energy Project Leads responsible for utility power delivery across multiple datacentre programmes. Establish clear objectives, accountability, performance expectations, and operational excellence across the Energy Delivery organisation. Drive a culture of safety, quality, inclusion, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Develop organisational capability and succession plans to support Microsoft's expanding energy delivery portfolio. End-to-End Energy Delivery Provide executive oversight of the full lifecycle delivery of utility power infrastructure from initial utility engagement through energisation and operational handover. Ensure successful execution of utility connection agreements, substation delivery, offsite transmission and distribution infrastructure, and energisation activities. Drive delivery predictability through effective governance, risk management, programme controls, and escalation management. Ensure alignment between utility schedules, permitting milestones, design deliverables, procurement activities, construction progress, and datacentre readiness requirements. Cross-Functional Leadership Lead coordination across a complex network of stakeholders including: Integrated Design Engineers Construction Managers Permitting Project Managers Utility Energy Project Managers Procurement Project Managers E2E Project Managers Datacenter Operations External utilities, regulators, and delivery partners Resolve cross-functional delivery challenges and remove execution barriers that impact schedule, cost, quality, or energisation readiness. Ensure clear ownership, governance, and decision-making across all parties involved in energy delivery. Utility and External Stakeholder Management Develop and maintain executive-level relationships with utilities, transmission system operators, distribution system operators, regulators, and strategic partners. Support negotiations related to grid connections, delivery schedules, technical requirements, and commercial commitments. Drive alignment between external infrastructure programmes and Microsoft datacentre deployment schedules. Risk, Safety and Compliance Ensure energy infrastructure programmes are executed in compliance with applicable regulations, utility requirements, engineering standards, environmental obligations, permitting requirements, and safety expectations. Lead assessment and mitigation of risks associated with power delivery, energisation, utility dependencies, and critical infrastructure readiness.
