As a Principal Software Engineer Manager , you will have the opportunity to shape the future of Windows PCs by leading engineering innovation at the intersection of platform quality, emerging hardware technologies, AI, telemetry, and ecosystem scale. You will guide a talented team of engineers with deep domain expertise to build toolkits that raise Windows PC quality, unlock engineering insights, accelerate issue resolution, and improve efficiency across the ecosystem. You will partner with OEMs, ODMs, IHVs, silicon partners, and cross-functional teams across Microsoft to define engineering strategy and light-up new hardware opportunities on latest and future Windows device experiences. Responsibilities
Lead a software engineering team to build toolkits that enable new Windows devices with modern hardware features, improve ecosystem efficiency, and enhance Windows PC quality. Drive clarity, alignment, and execution across engineering teams and partner organizations by establishing shared goals, clear priorities, and solid cross-functional collaboration. Define and communicate technical strategy, ensuring engineering investments align with partner needs, business outcomes, and long-term Windows engineering goals. Foster a culture of accountability and engineering excellence to support predictable, high-quality delivery. Lead by example through hands-on technical engagement, architectural guidance, and sound engineering judgment, while empowering teams to own execution and innovation. Grow and develop team talent to thrive in an AI- and data-driven frontier organization. Establish an inclusive team culture consistent with Microsoft’s values and leadership principles.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python. OR equivalent experience. Demonstrated ability to communicate, collaborate, and deliver presentations effectively in both Mandarin and English.
Preferred Qualifications
Proficiency in C++ and/or C#, with scripting experience in PowerShell or Python. 2+ years people management experience. 4+ years Windows development and debugging experiences. Proven record for shipping successful software projects or services. Proven record for AI and data driven applications and adoptions. Experience working across teams within a shared ownership model with clear contracts, influencing outcomes for customers and partners. Ability to establish relationships and credibility with multiple area leaders, with a proven ability to navigate cross team ownership, unblock integration, and drive changes to ship through other teams. Prior collaboration with OEM/IHV partners.
