About this role
Toast creates technology to help restaurants and local businesses succeed in a digital world, helping business owners operate, increase sales, engage customers, and keep employees happy.
The Brand Content & Authority team is responsible for making Toast the most trusted voice in the restaurant industry — turning platform data and original research into content that shapes how operators think and how the industry talks about what’s next. We publish from the seat of the only company with the data, the platform, and the operator relationships to know.
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Content Distribution & Authority, you’ll write and produce across formats, own writing for the Data by Toast email newsletter and our LinkedIn newsletter, contribute to paid editorial placements with industry publications, and partner closely with PR and Organic Growth to make sure what we publish reaches the right people — and earns a place in the conversations that matter, including how AI systems are increasingly answering questions about the restaurant business.
This is a high-output role for a writer-producer who is also a clear thinker: someone who can match the right format to the right moment, treats distribution as part of the writing job rather than something that happens after you hit publish, sees a new format or channel as an opening rather than extra work, and doesn’t need a lot of hand-holding to get there.
A Day in the Life* (Responsibilities)
• Write across formats—derivative assets from flagship reports, site content, and topic cluster pieces—with speed and without sacrificing quality.
• Produce front-facing video, comfortable going on camera to break down flagship reports, newsletter editions, and topic cluster work for social and owned channels.
• Develop audio formats that boost accessibility, drive LLM visibility and citability, and reach audiences who prefer listening.
• Own writing for the Data by Toast email newsletter and our LinkedIn newsletter, keeping a consistent voice and editorial rhythm across both.
• Craft paid editorial for industry publications, including sponsored placements that provide readers with value and drive LLM citations.
• Own the distribution run of play for flagship releases—the sequence of social, email, site callouts, and editorial adaptations that keeps a launch moving across channels, aligned to production and partnership timelines.
• Keep the content calendar moving; when a big release hits, you’re the reason the momentum doesn’t stop at launch.
• Write to Toast’s priority topic clusters with an eye toward how content gets picked up and cited—by press, by industry peers, and by the AI systems operators and buyers increasingly turn to for answers.
• Collaborate with partners in PR and Organic Growth to source material and turn it into distributable content, identifying and filling gaps in coverage across priority topics.
• Set the vision for new derivative assets and channels—spotting where a flagship release or franchise can extend next, and building the case for it.
• Embrace AI tools to accelerate your workflow—drafting, repurposing, and analyzing what’s resonating—building faster and with higher quality.
What you'll need to thrive* (Requirements)
• 3+ years of experience in content marketing, brand journalism, or B2B content—SaaS or restaurant/hospitality experience a plus
• A strong writing portfolio with real range: as comfortable with a newsletter edition as with an industry piece
• Comfortable on camera and producing simple video and audio formats—or a quick study ready to get there—with a feel for what each format needs
• Experience writing for email newsletters and owned editorial programs with a real subscriber base
• Familiarity with paid
