Financial Analyst – Supervising Associate, Tax Canada The Opportunity As a Supervising Associate within Tax Canada Finance, you will act as a trusted advisor to business and finance leaders by delivering financial analysis, management reporting, operational finance support, and business insights. This role combines accounting and financial operations, financial planning and analysis, reporting, and process improvement. Accounting & Financial Operations
Prepare and process journal entries, accruals, reclassifications, and other accounting adjustments to support accurate financial reporting. Support month-end and year-end close activities by validating financial results and resolving accounting and reporting issues. Process invoices and partner with Accounts Payable to ensure transactions are recorded and paid accurately in accordance with firm policies. Provide support to the practice on expense coding, cost allocations, invoice submissions, and general financial processes. Review financial transactions for accuracy and completeness and resolve discrepancies as required. Maintain a strong understanding of accounting principles, including debits and credits, accrual accounting, expense management, and revenue recognition. Analyze financial results and profit and loss performance, identifying key trends and drivers impacting revenue, expenses, profitability, and margin. Ensure compliance with EY policies, financial controls, and reporting requirements.
Financial Planning & Analysis
Prepare financial and operational reporting packages, including analysis, commentary, and business insights for leadership teams. Support budgeting, forecasting, and business planning processes by developing projections and providing financial recommendations. Perform ad hoc financial analysis to answer business questions, evaluate impacts, and support decision-making. Monitor key performance indicators and communicate findings in a clear and actionable manner. Partner with business and finance leaders to understand financial performance and identify opportunities to improve operational effectiveness and profitability. Translate financial data into meaningful business insights that support informed decision-making.
Reporting & Analytics
Leverage firmwide reporting and dashboard solutions to support financial analysis and business decision-making. Respond to ad hoc reporting requests by gathering, analyzing, and presenting financial and operational data. Develop and maintain customized reports, dashboards, and scorecards to address local business needs where standard reporting does not exist. Utilize Excel, Power Query, and Power BI to extract, transform, analyze, and visualize data from multiple sources. Identify opportunities to improve reporting efficiency through automation, standardization, and enhanced use of technology. Partner with Finance and Reporting & Data Analytics teams to improve data quality, reporting consistency, and access to information. Power BI report and dashboard development experience is considered a strong asset and may be leveraged to address evolving Tax Canada reporting requirements.
Continuous Improvement
Identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and the overall quality of financial operations and reporting. Leverage technology and automation tools to reduce manual effort and improve the availability of business insights. Contribute to special projects and initiatives that support Tax Canada Finance priorities and broader firm objectives.
Skills & Attributes for Success
Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial statement relationships. Strong financial and business acumen with the ability to identify drivers of revenue, costs, profitability, and margin performance.
