About this role

Are you an experienced electrical engineer with a strong track record of leading technical teams and executing complex utility infrastructure projects? If so, Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is seeking a Supervisor Electrical Engineer to join our team, and we hope you consider applying!

This crucial leadership role sits within SPU’s Project Delivery and Engineering Branch (ETSD). You will step into an established, vital position to lead, support, and grow a talented team of professional engineering staff. Your team will deliver new capital projects and provide engineering subject matter expertise across all of SPU's diverse lines of business—including Water, Drainage and Wastewater (DWW), and Solid Waste.

About Seattle Public Utilities: Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is a community-centered utility that delivers vital services to Seattle residents and businesses. We provide drinking water for 1.5 million customers in the region, manage drainage and wastewater, and oversee garbage/recycling/compost. Over 1,500 SPU employees work with our community to provide affordable and equitable stewardship of our water and waste resources for future generations.

SPU commits to Our City Values and Race and Social Justice as core principles that guide our work. We actively take steps to dismantle systemic racism and increase service equity. We value diverse life experiences and strive to create a workplace that is welcoming to all.

Why Join Our Team?

We know work isn't only about what you do, it's also about who you work for and with! SPU provides a fun, collaborative, and family-friendly environment that supports a healthy work-life balance, including:

• Hybrid work schedule opportunities (currently 3 days a week in the office at SMT).

• Generous benefits package and City pension plan with employer/employee contributions.

• Free ORCA Pass.

• Growth potential, professional development, and advancement opportunities.

As the Supervisor Electrical Engineer, your core focus will be to lead staff to success, provide high-quality engineering deliverables, and serve as an engineering subject matter expert throughout the utility.

Key Responsibilities Include

• Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and foster the growth and development of a professional engineering design team. You will directly supervise four staff members: one Senior Civil Engineer, two Senior Electrical Engineers, and one Associate Electrical Engineer.

• Project Oversight: Supervise staff performing work—or directly serve as the project engineer—on the most
