Job Summary
The Caterpillar’s Drivetrain team in Mexico designs drivetrain components used across Caterpillar machines and OEM applications. We are looking for a design team lead for parts made from castings: primarily cast iron and cast steel, including hydraulic pumps and valves bodies, brake calipers, and other miscellaneous cast components. This position will provide design leadership through the entire lifecycle of the part, from concept to production implementation to production maintenance and supporting our end customers.
Responsibilities
Indirect team lead for 2-3 casting design engineers Acting as a mentor and work coordinator for junior engineers. Creating new designs that meet all technical and business requirements. Completing Design FMEAs and Technical Reviews to establish risk and corresponding validation plans. Completing and/or coordinating analysis activities to evaluate new designs. Working with suppliers and purchasing teams when sourcing parts to a supplier. Provide technical assessment and guidance to resolve production part quality issues. Assess if part nonconformances are acceptable for use. Provide engineering support to local assembly facilities. Participate in APQP activities.
Education
Requirements Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Manufacturing, Mechatronics or Aerospace Engineering Advanced English-speaking level is required Skills the candidate must have Effective Communications: Strong communication and interpersonal skills Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Expert in Creo modeling and stress analysis Technical Excellence: Working knowledge of relationships between manufacturing processes and metallurgical defects Expert in designing hydraulic parts or systems Product Design - MFG: Expert in designing or manufacturing cast and machined components Working knowledge of gray and ductile iron casting processes Working knowledge of DFMEA, APQP, and PPAP methodologies Product Design and Development: Expert in designing hydraulic parts or systems throughout the product development lifecycle Additional Information This position will be located in Caterpillar´s Cienega de Flores campus. This position may require up to 20% travel, domestic and international. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
