About this role
Full Stack Software Engineer, Lead The Opportunity: Performs architecture, implementation, problem solving, maintenance, and support for agile software development of modern, data-intensive systems. Works on complex technical problems requiring strong engineering judgment and innovative solutions. Independently designs and implements software capabilities while contributing to architecture, engineering practices, and technical direction. Serves as a technical resource and mentor to other engineers. Are you looking for an opportunity to build challenging software with a meaningful impact in the defense and aviation industries? As a Staff Software Engineer, you’ll be a highly skilled, hands-on member of the engineering team designing and building modern software that processes, analyzes, and visualizes large volumes of data in near real time. You’ll spend most of your time solving difficult engineering problems and building software. You’ll work across the stack, contribute to architecture, and turn ambiguous requirements into reliable, maintainable products. You’ll have significant autonomy and are expected to recognize problems, determine practical solutions, and drive work to completion without extensive direction. What You’ll Work On: Design, develop, test, debug, and maintain production software across the stack. Design and implement scalable, distributed, event-driven, near-real-time systems using TypeScript, Node.js, React.js, and Next.js. Design and implement REST APIs, backend services, event-driven data pipelines, and distributed messaging using technologies such as Kafka. Design and optimize PostgreSQL databases, data models, and data access patterns. Develop containerized applications using Docker and deploy cloud-based capabilities across AWS, Azure, or GCP. Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions or Jenkins. Contribute to software architecture and technical decisions, balancing performance, scalability, reliability, maintainability, and development velocity. Troubleshoot complex issues across application, infrastructure, networking, and data layers. Participate in technical design and code reviews and help establish practical engineering standards. Work with engineers, product owners, and customers to translate evolving requirements into effective technical solutions. Take ownership of significant technical capabilities from design through implementation, deployment, and ongoing support. Share knowledge and mentor other engineers through collaboration, code reviews, and technical guidance. You Have: 12+ years of experience with professional software engineering and delivering production software 5+ years of experience with TypeScript, Node.js, React.js, and RESTful API design and implementation 5+ years of experience working with event-driven, near-real-time streaming, and distributed architectures 4+ years of experience using Docker and PostgreSQL 3+ years of experience with Next.js, Kafka, and cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or GCP 3+ years of experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions or Jenkins and providing technical direction or serving as a technical lead on software development efforts Knowledge of software architecture, design patterns, testing, debugging, and production operations Ability to independently solve complex technical problems, make practical decisions, and work effectively with minimal direction Ability to obtain a Secret clearance Bachelor’s degree Nice If You Have: 2+ years of experience with 2D or 3D rendering technologies 2+ years of experience with C# or Python Experience with Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) Experience developing software for aviation, flight training, or aerospace applications Experience with simulation platforms such as Unity, Unreal Engine, or Prepar3D Experience
