About this role
Banamex is transforming—and we’re doing it from the inside out. We’re rebuilding one of Mexico’s most iconic banks into a modern, cloud-enabled, API-driven financial platform that moves at fintech speed while operating at national scale. As our Head of Applications Architecture , you will report directly to the CTO and play a hands-on, execution-focused role at the center of that transformation. Your mission: turn architectural vision into real systems—working side by side with engineering teams to design, implement, and scale transition architectures that move us decisively toward our target state. This is not a distant governance role. You will be embedded in delivery—shaping solutions, unblocking teams, and ensuring that what we build today accelerates where we need to be tomorrow. From cloud adoption and integration patterns to domain evolution and engineering practices, you will be a critical bridge between architecture and execution across the organization. If you want to influence direction and see it implemented at scale, this is where it happens. What you’ll own Solution Architecture Leadership Partner directly with development teams to design and implement end-to-end solutions aligned with target architecture—balancing speed, scalability, and maintainability. Transition Architectures Define and evolve pragmatic transition states that enable incremental modernization without disrupting business continuity. Cloud Adoption Enablement Drive adoption of cloud-native patterns and services (AWS/Azure/GCP), ensuring solutions are designed for scalability, resilience, and cost efficiency. Integration & API Strategy Standardize and implement integration patterns (REST, events, messaging) that reduce coupling and enable faster cross-team delivery. Engineering Practices Influence Promote and embed modern practices—CI/CD, DevOps, observability, resilience engineering—through direct collaboration with engineering teams. Domain & System Evolution Help teams decompose monoliths, define clearer service boundaries, and align systems with business domains. Architecture in Execution Act as a hands-on design authority within delivery cycles—participating in solution design, trade-off decisions, and technical problem solving. Cross-Functional Collaboration Serve as a key connector between Architecture, Engineering, Security, Data, and Product—ensuring cohesive, end-to-end solutions. Governance that Enables Delivery Establish lightweight, pragmatic governance that accelerates decisions rather than slowing teams down. What makes this opportunity special Architecture that ships You won’t just define strategy—you’ll see it implemented in production. Embedded influence Work directly with engineering teams, shaping real systems and outcomes. Transformation with momentum Be part of a fast-paced modernization effort with visible progress and executive backing. Enterprise impact Your decisions will influence systems used by millions across Mexico. What you’ve done (Required) 12+ years in software engineering and architecture, with strong hands-on solutioning experience Proven experience working closely with development teams to deliver complex systems Track record implementing modernization initiatives (monolith to services, cloud adoption, API enablement) Strong expertise in distributed systems, APIs, and integration patterns Practical experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and hybrid environments Deep understanding of system design trade-offs in high-scale, high-availability environments Experience embedding DevOps, CI/CD, and modern engineering practices into delivery teams Strong stakeholder management with the ability to influence both engineers and executives Nice to have Experience in financial services or regulated environments Exposure to payments (SPEI/CoDi), digital banking, or core banking systems Familiarity with domain-driven design (DDD) in large organizations Experience with event
