Automation Engineer Function & Business Unit: Maintenance & Engineering, Supply Chain, SEA Location: Rayong, Thailand Reports to: Maintenance & Engineering Manager Global Level: 02 The Automation Engineer is an individual contributor responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing automation systems and digitalization initiatives to enhance manufacturing processes and operational efficiency. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate advanced technologies (Field devices, Operation Technology (OT) and Information Technology (IT)) troubleshoot automation systems, and drive continuous improvement in line with Industry 4.0 principles. Automation Systems Development and Implementation
Design, develop, and program automation solutions for manufacturing and operational processes. Install, configure, and maintain control systems such as PLCs, SCADA, HMI, and robotics. Collaborate with process engineers and production teams to identify opportunities for automation. Test and validate automation systems to ensure functionality, safety, and efficiency.
Digitalization Initiatives
Implement digital tools and technologies to enhance data collection, analysis, and decision-making. Support the integration of Internet of Things devices into production systems to enable real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance. Collaborate with IT teams to develop and maintain data infrastructure for automated and digital systems. Lead initiatives for digital transformation to align manufacturing processes with Industry 4.0 standards.
Troubleshooting and Maintenance
Diagnose and resolve issues in automation systems and digital tools to minimize downtime. Perform regular maintenance and upgrades on automation hardware and software. Ensure system reliability and performance through proactive monitoring and problem-solving.
Process Optimization
Analyze manufacturing processes and identify opportunities for improvement using automation and digitalization solutions. Develop and implement strategies to optimize energy consumption, reduce waste, and improve production efficiency. Utilize data analytics tools to identify trends and implement corrective actions for process improvement.
Compliance and Documentation
Ensure all automation and digitalization initiatives comply with safety, quality, and regulatory standards. Maintain accurate documentation for automation systems, including design specifications, maintenance records, and troubleshooting guides. Develop and provide training materials to enhance team understanding of automation systems and digital tools.
Collaboration and Cross-Functional Support
Work closely with engineering, production, and maintenance teams to align automation and digitalization goals with operational objectives. Act as a subject matter expert for automation and digitalization technologies, providing technical guidance as needed. Liaise with external vendors and contractors to procure and implement automation solutions.
We’re Looking for Someone With
Bachelor’s degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field. Minimum of 3 years of experience in automation, control systems, or digitalization in a manufacturing environment. Proficiency in Field devices, OT/IT integration, programming PLCs (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley) and configuring SCADA systems. Experience with digital tools, and data analytics for manufacturing processes. Strong knowledge of automation technologies, including robotics, sensors, and control systems. Familiarity with digital transformation concepts, such as Industry 4.0 and smart factory solutions. Proficiency in programming languages used in automation.
