The Opportunity
We are seeking a skilled Senior Extrusion Technician to support our manufacturing and engineering extrusion operations, on 2nd shift, for our electrophysiology medical device group in Plymouth, MN. This role is ideal for candidates with strong hands-on extrusion experience who are passionate about precision, quality, and continuous improvement in a regulated medical device environment. In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives. What You’ll Work On As an Extrusion Technician you will play a critical role in supporting production, process development, and equipment performance: Process & Production Support Establish and optimize process parameters for new, experimental, and R&D extrusion runs Execute engineering builds, including IQ, OQ, and PQ validations Perform full machine setups and tear-downs for single and co-extrusion lines Maintain cycle times and process controls to meet production goals Extrusion Expertise Operate and maintain extrusion equipment used to produce precision tubing (including single- and multi-lumen designs ) Understand how material properties (e.g., thermoplastics) impact extrusion performance and product quality Monitor and adjust key process variables such as temperature, pressure, and line speed Quality & Troubleshooting Diagnose and troubleshoot extrusion defects such as: Outer Diameter (OD) / Inner Diameter (ID) variation Ovality, concentricity, and flow marks Perform detailed inspections using gauges, micrometers, scopes, and other measurement tools Ensure all documentation is completed accurately in compliance with GMP Continuous Improvement & Leadership Drive initiatives such as scrap reduction, cycle time improvement, and setup optimization Escalate quality or productivity concerns to engineering or quality teams Support ordering and maintenance of tooling and supplies Mentor entry-level technicians and collaborate cross-functionally with operators and leadership Equipment Maintenance Perform basic maintenance on extrusion lines and auxiliary systems including dryers, cutters, pullers, and melt filters Required Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent 5+ years of hands-on extrusion experience , including: Machine setup and tear-down Process troubleshooting and optimization Experience working in a GMP-regulated environment Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills Basic computer proficiency Preferred Qualifications Associate degree or
