About this role
As a Commercial Relationship Manager at Citi, you will own and grow a portfolio of commercial clients — building lasting relationships, structuring tailored financial solutions, and acting as the primary point of contact for a diverse client base. This is a client-facing advisory role at the heart of Citi's commercial banking business, where your ability to anticipate client needs, manage credit risk, and drive new business opportunities will have a direct impact on the team's performance and Citi's commercial growth agenda. You will work alongside senior relationship managers, product specialists, and internal teams to deliver a seamless and commercially sound client experience.
Responsibilities
Manage and grow a portfolio of commercial clients, serving as their primary relationship contact and proactively identifying their evolving financial needs. Develop and introduce tailored banking and financial solutions by partnering with product specialists and subject matter experts to meet each client's specific requirements. Identify and pursue cross-sell opportunities across the portfolio to deepen client relationships and grow share of wallet. Oversee the preparation and submission of new credit transactions and annual reviews to credit and risk teams, maintaining thorough documentation throughout the credit origination process. Act as the first line of defence for credit risk management, protecting Citi's assets and reputation by assessing risk in all business decisions and escalating issues with full transparency. Lead client onboarding and retention activities in collaboration with Case Managers, ensuring all Know Your Client (KYC) and regulatory compliance requirements are met. Support Senior Relationship Managers in deal structuring, prospective client research, and building a pipeline of new business opportunities. Ensure full adherence to regulatory requirements and Citi's policies at all times, applying sound judgement and ethical standards in every client interaction and business decision. Required Qualifications & Skills 5 to 8 years of experience in commercial banking, relationship management, or a closely related financial services role. Solid knowledge of banking and investment products, with a demonstrated ability to deliver sound financial advice and solutions to commercial clients. Credit analysis skills with hands-on experience managing the credit origination process, from deal closure through to documentation and account monitoring. Advanced grasp of accounting principles, financial modelling, and financial statement analysis. Strong business development mindset with a track record of identifying new opportunities and applying innovative approaches to meet client needs. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and collaborate effectively across teams. Proven ability to manage competing priorities, adapt rapidly to new information, and maintain focus in a fast-paced commercial environment. Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience. Beneficial Skills & Qualifications Early Warning Detection skills with the ability to identify credit risk signals within a client portfolio before they escalate. Experience coaching or mentoring junior team members within a commercial or banking environment. Confidence in embracing digital tools and technology platforms to enhance the client experience and improve day-to-day efficiency. Familiarity with KYC processes and regulatory compliance frameworks within a commercial banking context.
