The Role
Join Manufacturing Engineering within the Global Quality Center to help build a scan-enabled engineering community across GM manufacturing. This role designs, delivers, and continuously improves practical metrology training that helps teams measure faster, work with confidence, and apply Virtual First, Physical Second manufacturing validation processes. Develop training programs, exercises, and assessments for GM-standard metrology software, virtual matching, and related internal processes. Maintain clear standards for equipment use, inspection and verification workflows, training content, and learner support, then coach participants to apply these methods effectively on the job.
What You'll Do
Develop personal subject matter expertise with virtual matching processes, Virtual Total Assembly Checking Fixtures (VTAC), and virtual build methods at GM Deliver instructor-led and virtual classes for the Metrology Education and Skills Hub (MESH) initiative. Build role-based training programs and certification paths for engineers, operators, and subject matter experts (SMEs). Maintain versions and clear learning objectives. Configure and maintain training projects and starter templates in GM-standard metrology software. Publish best-known methods and job aids. Develop microlearning modules, job aids, and short videos to reinforce key skills. Manage training content in GM collaboration and learning systems, track enrollments, completions, and feedback. Track training outcomes with key performance indicators (KPIs) and feedback loops; improve content based on adoption and quality results. Support MESH events and the community of practice; mentor new facilitators. Introduce fundamentals of inspection and statistical process control (SPC) within training where appropriate. Occasional in-field measurement support for rapid response of launch issues. Your Skills & Abilities Bachelor’s degree in engineering, manufacturing, or related field, or equivalent experience. Three or more years of hands-on dimensional metrology and scanning in manufacturing. Two or more years of hands-on usage of InnovMetric PolyWorks Working proficiency with additional standard metrology software (PolyWorks, GOM, Zeiss, Creaform) and portable metrology tools such as laser trackers or portable CMM arms. Practical knowledge of GD&T and datum strategies. Experience developing and delivering technical training to mixed audiences. Clear written and verbal communication with a customer focus. What Will Give You a Competitive Edge Exposure to Virtual Total Assembly Checking Fixtures (VTAC) or virtual build methods Five or more years in dimensional metrology or quality engineering. Work experience in GM manufacturing facilities Experience with InnovMetric Dataloop. Tools and Technology GM-standard metrology software, portable metrology tools, computer-aided design (CAD), GD&T, statistical process control (SPC), measurement system analysis, SharePoint, and basic data visualization. Work Conditions Travel up to 25 percent to North American sites based on training demand. Periodic evenings or weekends as needed.
