The Senior Accounting Policy Advisor serves as the organization's subject matter expert on US GAAP and external financial reporting matters. This role is responsible for researching, interpreting, and implementing accounting standards; assessing the accounting implications of complex and non-routine transactions; and ensuring compliance with regulatory, reporting, and governance requirements. As a trusted advisor to finance leadership and business partners, the Senior Accounting Policy Advisor provides technical accounting guidance, drives the implementation of new accounting standards, and helps ensure the integrity and transparency of the Company's financial reporting. The role collaborates closely with senior management, external auditors, legal counsel, and cross-functional stakeholders to support sound accounting conclusions, effective governance and high-quality financial disclosures. What You Will Do
Accounting Policy & Technical Accounting
Monitor, analyze, and interpret emerging US GAAP accounting standards, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) regulatory developments, and industry reporting practices to assess their impact on the organization. Lead the evaluation and implementation of new accounting standards, ensuring timely adoption and compliance across the organization. Research and evaluate the accounting implications of complex, unusual, and strategic business transactions. Provide technical accounting guidance and recommendations to finance leadership and business stakeholders, translating complex accounting requirements into practical business solutions. Prepare and maintain high-quality technical accounting memoranda, accounting position papers, and white papers that support accounting conclusions and disclosure requirements. Partner with finance teams and global counterparts to assess evolving accounting issues, reporting requirements, and disclosure trends. Serve as the primary technical accounting liaison with external auditors, supporting accounting policy reviews and complex accounting assessments. External Reporting & Financial Disclosure
Review quarterly and annual financial statement disclosures to ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and leading reporting practices. Support the preparation and review of Management's Discussion and Analysis (MD&A), quarterly and annual filings and other external reporting documents.
