Job Description
Position Overview The Test & Validation Engineer is responsible for establishing and driving the verification and validation (V&V) capability across Teledyne Gavia’s AUV product portfolio. This role owns the definition, planning, and execution oversight of system-level testing to ensure that all products meet specified requirements, regulatory standards, and customer expectations. The position acts as the bridge between Systems Engineering, Software QA, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure that designs are testable, verification is structured and traceable, and validation is performed effectively across laboratory, integration, and field environments. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Verification & Validation (V&V) · Define and implement a company-wide V&V framework aligned with engineering processes and ISO requirements · Own the distinction and execution of: o Verification (meeting specifications) o Validation (meeting operational/customer needs) · Establish best practices for: o Test planning o Test case definition o Requirement traceability (requirements → test cases → results) Test Planning & Program Support · Develop test strategies and plans for all major development programs (e.g. AUV platforms, modules, system upgrades) · Ensure that: o Acceptance criteria are clearly defined o Verification activities are planned early in the development lifecycle · Actively support program teams by: o Reviewing test plans o Tracking test progress and readiness o Identifying risks and gaps in coverage System-Level Testing & Integration · Lead and coordinate testing across all stages: o Bench and module-level testing o Integration testing o Environmental and qualification testing (e.g., pressure, EMI, endurance) o Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and field validation (e.g., sea trials) · Ensure test environments are controlled and documented , including tools, configurations, and calibration · Oversee execution where needed, but focus primarily on structure, quality, and completeness Design for Testability · Work closely with Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, and Software teams to: o Ensure designs are testable from early phases o Identify required instrumentation, interfaces, and diagnostic capabilities · Participate in design reviews with a focus on: o Test coverage o Observability and controllability o Risk reduction Quality, Compliance & Documentation · Ensure all verification activities comply with: o Internal engineering processes o Applicable standards (e.g., CE, environmental testing, military standards as applicable) · Ensure test documentation is: o Complete o Repeatable o Auditable · Support: o Nonconformance tracking o Root cause analysis o Corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) Cross-Functional Collaboration · Work closely with: o Systems Engineering (requirements & architecture) o Software QA (test automation and regression) o Manufacturing & Field Service
