Our Purpose At our Medtronic plc R&D Department in Galway, Ireland, we focus on developing cutting-edge medical devices across Coronary, Structural Heart, PVH, Cardiac Rhythm Management, and Neuromodulation. Our Galway engineers are directly involved in developing innovative products for use in medical procedures. As a R&D Engineer II within the Interventional Cardiology Therapies (ICT) operating unit, you will support a team in the technical development of new products, from early-stage investigation and research through translation into commercial medical devices. A Day in The Life Of: Medtronic R&D seeks an experienced engineer to support all stages of the product development process, from concept generation through commercialization of innovative medical devices. Design and develop new medical devices from initial concept through design freeze, verification, validation, and commercialization. Translate clinical needs and opportunity assessments into device concepts and prototypes. You will document design / development / test activities as required in Engineering Laboratory notebooks. You will design, develop, analyze, troubleshoot and provide technical skills during research and / or product development. Represent Medtronic effectively when engaging with physicians, translating their needs into product requirements and concepts. Participate in technical innovation across the department. Identify and mitigate technology risks throughout the design process. Apply knowledge of anatomy, physiology, materials, and processes to produce working designs. Build effective relationships with team members, cross-functional partners, and key technology and component suppliers, both locally and globally. Contribute to resolving technical obstacles in existing designs and support portfolio-sustaining activities. Contribute to the generation of intellectual property. Key Skills & Experience Level 8 degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline, with a minimum of 2 years’ relevant direct engineering experience in a medical device environment. You are a dynamic team player who works effectively and proactively on cross-functional teams, collaborates across organizational boundaries, and takes appropriate action when problems arise. Medical device product development experience is desirable. System or Component Design for Injection molding experience desirable Strong experience with CAD & PDM packages – Solidworks or similar Technical experience in DOE (Design of Experiments), Six Sigma, DFM, or related methodologies.
