We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion. Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a Network Development Engineer to join our team in Sydney. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, deployment, and operation of network infrastructure that powers AWS services globally. You will work alongside talented engineers to solve complex networking challenges at scale, automate operational processes, and drive improvements that enhance the reliability and performance of our network. This is an opportunity to work on advanced network technologies and make a meaningful impact on millions of customers worldwide. Key job responsibilities - Design, deploy, and troubleshoot network infrastructure including routers, switches, and optical transport systems across AWS data centers and backbone networks - Develop automation tools and scripts to streamline network operations, reduce manual toil, and improve operational efficiency - Perform root cause analysis on complex network incidents and drive resolution to minimize customer impact - Collaborate with cross-functional teams including software engineers, systems engineers, and network architects to deliver scalable network solutions - Participate in on-call rotations to support 24/7 network operations and ensure high availability of AWS services - Contribute to capacity planning, network design reviews, and the development of operational best practices and runbooks - Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement A day in the life Our team is responsible for maintaining and evolving the network infrastructure that underpins AWS services globally. We are a diverse group of engineers who are passionate about networking, automation, and operational excellence. We foster a collaborative environment where every team member's ideas are valued, and we are committed to continuous learning and innovation. We take pride in our work and the impact it has on customers around the world. As a Network Development Engineer, your day may start with reviewing network health dashboards and addressing any overnight alerts. You might spend the morning collaborating with your team on a network automation project, writing Python scripts to automate repetitive tasks. After lunch, you could be deep-diving into a complex routing issue, analyzing packet captures and BGP route tables to identify the root cause. You'll regularly participate in design reviews, share knowledge with peers, and work on projects that directly improve the reliability and scalability of the AWS network.
