We're looking for a Foreign Exchange Investigation Specialist to join our team and play a key role in researching, resolving, and preventing payment settlement issues across our global correspondent banking network. In this role, you'll utilize your expertise in international payments, SWIFT messaging, and cross-border investigations to resolve Nostro account breaks, minimize operational risk, and deliver seamless service to both internal partners and clients. You'll work closely with Front Office, Sales, Middle Office, and Operations teams while identifying opportunities to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
What You'll Do
Investigate and resolve Nostro account breaks, including beneficiary claims, non-receipts, returns, and payment settlement discrepancies. Generate and approve SWIFT messages to correct, repair, and re-effect payment settlements. Partner with Front Office, Sales, Middle Office, and Operations teams to deliver timely and accurate payment resolutions. Analyze exceptions, identify root causes, and recommend process improvements to reduce operational risk and enhance efficiency. Manage personal and shared team mailboxes to ensure prompt response to inquiries and investigations. Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance workflows, controls, and client experience. Handle additional operational and investigative responsibilities as business needs evolve. Basic Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent Five or more years of relevant work experience Preferred Skills/Experience Strong knowledge of international banking products, services, and operational processes. Extensive experience with SWIFT payment messages, including MT103, MT202, MT199, MT299, and MT210. Experience investigating cross-border or correspondent banking payment exceptions. Strong understanding of SWIFT standards and global payment settlement practices. Demonstrated success reducing operational losses and improving process efficiency. Excellent analytical, organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple teams. Ability to assess complex situations, anticipate outcomes, and exercise sound judgment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other business applications. Bachelor's degree or business, technical, trade, or international banking certification preferred. Location Expectations This role requires working from a U.S. Bank location three (3) or more days per week.
