As a Software Engineer Principal within PNC's Technology organization, you will be based in Pittsburgh, PA. A Software Engineer Principal in Fraud Engineering serves as a senior technical leader responsible for the architecture & design adherence, resiliency, and technical direction of mission-critical fraud platforms and services. This role combines deep engineering expertise with strategic thinking to deliver scalable, secure, and highly available fraud solutions that protect customers, support business growth, and meet regulatory and operational expectations. Core Technical Skills • Expert-level knowledge of enterprise software development using Java and distributed systems. • Deep understanding of APIs, microservices, event-driven architecture, messaging platforms, and service integration patterns. • Strong experience with REST, SOAP, ETL processes, data movement, and system interoperability. • Experience with Linux, automation frameworks, scripting (Python, Shell, Ansible), and infrastructure automation. Responsibilities • Provide hands-on technical leadership for complex software development efforts, integrations, and platform modernization initiatives. • Guide solution decomposition, technical planning, estimation, and implementation strategies across multiple Agile teams. • Champion software quality, observability, test automation, CI/CD practices, and operational excellence. • Drive root cause analysis and corrective action planning for critical production incidents and recurring operational issues. • Ensure systems are designed with appropriate fault tolerance, monitoring, recovery, and disaster recovery capabilities. This position may be eligible for remote work in select geographic locations, subject to approval by PNC. If approved, work must be conducted from a quiet, secure, and confidential home-based workspace. Occasional in-office participation may be required based on business needs. PNC will not provide sponsorship for employment visas or participate in STEM OPT for this position.
