Position
Title: Building Mechanic Location: Harborside 5 – 185 Hudson Street, Jersey City, NJ Shift: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM Estimated total compensation for this position: $44.51 per hour Position Summary Harborside 5 is seeking a motivated and dependable Building Mechanic to join our Engineering team. The successful candidate will assist in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the building’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems. This position is ideal for an individual with a strong mechanical aptitude who is looking to build a long-term career in commercial building operations. This is a union position represented by IUOE Local 68 . The successful candidate must be eligible for union membership and will be required to enroll in the IUOE Local 68 Training Program to obtain the required certifications and licenses necessary to perform the duties of the position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform preventative maintenance on building mechanical and electrical equipment. Troubleshoot and repair HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other building systems. Respond to tenant service requests and complete assigned work orders in a timely and professional manner. Assist in the operation and maintenance of air handling units, fan-powered boxes, pumps, motors, VFDs, cooling towers, domestic water systems, and other building infrastructure. Perform routine inspections of building equipment and identify maintenance or safety concerns. Maintain accurate maintenance records and complete work orders using the building’s maintenance management system. Assist with scheduled equipment shutdowns and after-hours maintenance activities as required. Follow all company and building safety policies and procedures. Work collaboratively with fellow engineers, contractors, and property management to maintain a Class A commercial office building.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required. General mechanical and electrical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot and repair commercial building systems. Previous experience in commercial building maintenance, industrial maintenance, or a related technical field is preferred. Basic understanding of HVAC, plumbing, electrical distribution, and mechanical equipment. Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining a high level of customer service. Training and Licensing The selected candidate must enroll in and successfully participate in the IUOE Local 68 Training Program . The employee will be expected to obtain and maintain all certifications and licenses required by the Union and the Employer as part of their continued employment. Schedule Monday through Friday 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM Overtime and occasional after-hours work may be required to support emergency repairs, scheduled shutdowns, and critical building operations.
