The Industrial Application Development (IAD) Engineer supports Equistar’s polyethylene, polypropylene and Specialties businesses by developing new or modified applications targeting selected Industrial Marketing segments. Key components of the position include gathering market intelligence from customers and brand owners, developing new packaging structures and supporting commercialization of Equistar polymers in new applications. The primary focus of the position is on valued business growth and focus in the healthcare, food packaging, and infrastructure industries. The industrial applications development engineer provides critical application development information to support development programs and provide direction for target applications. This engineer is recognized as a technical expert in the targeted markets, providing direction to other R&D groups, as well as the Industrial Market Manager and Sales. This expertise includes knowledge of the market, product/resin requirements and application processes/equipment. The ideal candidate will have at least a BS (MS preferred) in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science & Engineering, Polymer Science & Engineering or Chemistry plus 8-10 or more years’ experience with polyolefin resins used in targeted applications. A general knowledge of HDPE, LDPE, LLDPE and PP resin technologies with a business/market focus is desired. A Day in the Life

Possesses an excellent understanding of the responsibilities of key cross-functional groups and uses this knowledge to effectively and quickly drive application development activities within the group. Understands the long-term strategic vision for the Company, and leads efforts to work with key stakeholders to translate and integrate these into objectives and action plans, while also driving resource/equipment selection and allocation to align with strategic vision Provides strategic leadership in the identification, development and implementation of tools, systems and processes aimed at continuously improving technical service, application development and project management effectiveness. Understands broad customer, market and industry needs / trends, and facilitates the group’s interaction with other cross-functional organizations to frame these into value added opportunities. Drives and manages teamwork and collaboration within the group while also fostering effective communication across functions - aligns resources as necessary to meet business needs.
