Senior Engineer – Core Engine Component Engineering Position: Senior Design Engineer SG 23 Location: Chennai / Bangalore / Aurangabad Large Power Systems Division (LPSD) is currently looking for a Senior Engineer to lead the development of core engine components for Caterpillar Engine applications. The position is accountable for leading the design, development and validation of core engine components (5C components include cylinder heads, cylinder blocks, crankshafts, connecting rods, camshafts, gears, housings, pistons, rings, liners, and valve mechanism components.) and systems in support of New Source Introduction (NSI), Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) and New Product Introduction (NPI) projects. The position will have broad responsibility from concept development to release to production in a manner to ensure products provide superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability. The individual must have strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with NSI lead, product group teams, and key strategic suppliers to effectively design and development components and system solutions supporting product group’s program deliverables. Clear and consistent communication, the ability to troubleshoot, and solid technical aptitude are essential in this position for effective collaboration with diverse teams. Job duties: In this position, you will be mainly leading engineering activities on several NSI (New Source Introduction) programs by working with global teams, cross functions teams and our supply base to optimize our manufacturing footprint. Engaging closely with suppliers on concurrent product and process design and development of components to achieve our quality, delivery, and financial objectives. Manage multiple projects and closely work with NSI lead / L4 engine platform teams to achieve the goals and keep them abreast of progress and developments. Execute maintenance activities such as factory and customer problem resolution, cost reduction and robustness improvement projects. Design and development of Core Engine components (5C Components include Cylinder head, blocks, Crankshafts, Connecting Rods, Cam shafts, Gears, Housings components, Pistons, Rings, Liners and Valve Mechanism components etc.), systems and related processes, Provide technical support to Manufacturing, Quality, and Purchasing Engineers during the component development. Participate in reviews and present design/program status to key stakeholders and senior leadership. Lead failure issue resolution to identify root cause / rapid response to issue resolution to keep our products in-use. Should have knowledge of other functions that provide inputs regularly, i.e., Product Development, Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Operations. Travel of approximately 15%–20% of time to supplier and manufacturing facilities is expected.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 10+ years of relevant work experience progressively responsible job-related experience are typically required.
