Collins Aerospace is looking for a Sr Principal Stress Engineer who will perform structural analysis in support of thermosets, thermoplastics, composites, metallic nacelles and aerostructure components using standard analysis methods and finite element approaches. You will conduct design trades and final product configuration definitions considering safety, strength, weight, cost & producibility for Military & Commercial applications. You will also generate and present reports suitable for transmittal to an airworthiness authority, internal/external customers (such as Boeing, Airbus, Embraer and Military). In addition, you will collaborate with both domestic and international engineering support teams on technical aspects of the stress analysis activities.
What You Will Do
Responsible for performing structural analysis of aircraft components, assemblies, and systems while working as an integrated team for design studies. Solve challenging structural analysis problems independently and engage with other disciplines and subject matter experts/chief engineers when disseminating results. Structural analysis includes development of finite element models and loads, and performing static, fatigue, and vibrations analysis. Evaluate structural integrity of aircraft structures by way of classical hand analysis and finite element methods. Generate documentation to report analysis and test results to support airworthiness certification. Working with FAA (or similar authorities) and Mil-Spec airworthiness requirements. Develop improvements to existing processes and systems. Participate in continuous improvement activities and events. Travel up to 10% domestically and internationally when circumstances permit. Supports operation of equipment engineering systems by evaluating and interpreting needs and problems and develops effective approaches to resolving those issues.
Qualifications
You Must Have: Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience. Experience with structural analysis (classical hand analysis and finite element skills). Structural load paths experience. FEA (Finite Element Analysis) software experience.
