Job Overview
Identifies the specifications and requirements of the tools and recommends revisions in the design or fabrication, materials, and production processes. Job Requirements
1. Tool Maintenance & Assembly
Knowledge on mold, jigs, and fixtures manufacturing as per drawings and specifications. Carry out tool fitting, assembly, and try-outs. Ensure dimensional accuracy and finishing standards. To manage shift activities effectively. Thorough knowledge & maintenance practice on Hot runners
2. Maintenance & Troubleshooting
Diagnose and repair worn-out or damaged tools and dies. Analyze recurring tool failures and implement corrective actions. Perform preventive and breakdown maintenance of tooling.
3. Interpretation of Drawings & Specifications
Engineering drawings GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) Convert design intent into manufacturable tooling solutions.
4. Process Improvement
Suggest improvements to increase tool life and performance. Reduce downtime through design or process modifications.
5. Quality Control
Inspect tools using precision instruments
Vernier, micrometer, height gauge, dial indicators, CMM (basic exposure)
Ensure compliance with quality standards and tolerances. Support root cause analysis for defects.
6. Shopfloor Coordination
Coordinate with: Design team Production team QA/QC departments Support new product development and trial runs.
7. Documentation
Maintain records of
Tool history Maintenance logs Modification reports Ensure adherence to SOPs and safety standards.
8. Leadership & Mentoring
Guide and train junior tool makers and apprentices. Lead small teams during tool build or repair activities. Ensure proper skill transfer and knowledge sharing.
Technical Skills Required
Expertise in tool room machines: Surface grinding, cylindrical grinding Milling, lathe, EDM/Wire-cut Knowledge of tool steels, heat treatment, and coatings Good understanding of tolerances, fits, and finishes Exposure to CAD drawings (AutoCAD, SolidWorks preferred) Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills. Knowledge on over mold & injection molding process. Knowledge on TPM.
Education and Knwledge
Diploma in Tool & Die Making / Mechanical Engineering
4-6 years in
Tool room / Die maintenance / Mold manufacturing
Hands-on exposure to high-precision tooling environments Experience
