Job Description

The Systems Engineer role focuses on managing the entire lifecycle of embedded IoT hardware, including design, manufacturing, and homologation for HPE's User Experience Insight platform. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in electronics and embedded systems, with skills in RF protocols, hardware troubleshooting, embedded Linux, ARM processors, and software development in Python, C, and Rust. Strong communication, troubleshooting, and design verification skills are essential, along with a background in high-reliability electronics and EMC considerations. A bachelor's degree in Electronic Engineering, with a preference for a master's, is required.

Key responsibilities

Lead embedded hardware design and lifecycle management Ensure manufacturing and homologation processes Troubleshoot and verify electronic schematics and layouts Develop and maintain embedded Linux systems and drivers Collaborate across teams to deliver reliable, high-quality hardware products Facilitating relationships with existing vendors and JDMs in the manufacturing and production of the UXI hardware sensor Owning the hardware program from end-to-end as a technical stakeholder and contributing where needed to all aspects of the embedded system design Manage homologation for new or existing products and engage with necessary compliance stakeholders Contribute towards any future hardware program's product-requirement-docs and new functionality & feature conceptualization and implementation Education and Experience Required: Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals and negotiate options at senior management levels Good understanding of EMC issues Experience in electronics design for high reliability (typical product lifespan and maintenance window of 5-10 years) Experience in reading and verifying schematics, and follow good electronic design principles Experience in reviewing and troubleshooting printed circuit layouts, and follow good electronic design principles Experience with RF protocols, specifically Wi-Fi 802.11, BLE, and Cellular Debugging skills, to quickly find problems and manage corrective actions Experience with embedded Linux operating systems, Kernels and drivers Demonstrable experience developing and contributing towards embedded Bootloaders (U-Boot) and related source code Experience with ARM based processors (eg. 32-bit ARMv7) Python, C, and rust software development experience and the ability maintain ongoing software projects in a collaborative environment with a focus on CI/CD Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery in English and local language BsC Degree in Electronic Engineering or equivalent (MsC preferred) #South Africa #Networking What We Can Offer You: Health & Wellbeing We strive to provide our team members and their loved ones with a comprehensive suite of benefits that supports their physical, financial and emotional wellbeing.
