Finance Traineeship – Accounting Overview We are very excited to recruit an ambitious and quick learner to join our Amsterdam Accounting and Finance team for a 12-month traineeship program. This role will provide the ideal candidate with hands-on experience in a fast-growing, global biotech company. Our team in Amsterdam oversees the Ex-US accounting operational and reporting responsibilities, and we are looking for someone that is dedicated to meeting our team and company goals, while we are dedicated to helping develop this candidate to jump start their career. During the 12-month assignment, you will be guided by your direct manager, as well as the accounting team, and will interact with multiple departments within the company. The candidate will observe the financial operations of a US listing company and learn the importance of internal controls and SOX compliance, while understanding the processes behind the monthly and quarterly close. Additionally, this role will have exposure to senior leadership team members. Accordingly, we are looking for the perfect candidate that is excited to be part of the continued success of Alnylam. Summary of Key Responsibilities Responsible for the general ledger accounting and company reporting for certain entities within the Alnylam group. This includes understanding the business operations, payroll arrangements, VAT and other local tax and regulatory filing requirements, recurring accruals and prepayments, and aligning with the FP&A team on other accruals required based on the current period activity. During the closing period, the candidate will help prepare balance sheet reconciliations, and explanations on the P&L variances during the respective periods. While understanding the group global accounting policies, as well as local statutory reporting requirements and maintaining both the US GAAP and Local Statutory ledgers. Supporting the monthly and quarterly close process, including preparing monthly Blackline reconciliations. Supporting our SOX internal control framework and preparing monthly/quarterly control procedures and documenting these controls in our IT audit system. Reviewing transactions in SAP, identifying required manual journal entries, preparing the supporting documentation, and recording manual journal entries in SAP. Joining the Amsterdam accounting team in weekly status update meetings and proactively supporting other team members, as needed. Preparing various summarized financial data to present to senior leadership team members. By being involved in the annual statutory audit process, this candidate will learn how to manage external reporting requirements and the importance of internal controls around financial reporting. This candidate will join our Global Accounting meetings and learn the processes required to meet US reporting requirements.
Qualifications
Completed a Bachelor’s degree (in Finance/Accounting) and either pursuing a master’s (post-master’s) degree, or entering the workforce with limited professional work experience. Understanding of Accounting is required (US GAAP is a plus) Desire to learn and motivation to build the foundations for a successful career.
