Staff Software Engineer (Cloud Storage & Distributed Systems)

NetApp's Azure NetApp Files (ANF) team is building industry-leading cloud storage services that power mission-critical enterprise workloads in Microsoft Azure. We are looking for a highly motivated senior engineer to help develop and operate cloud-scale distributed systems that span storage, networking, cloud infrastructure, and user experience. This is a unified engineering role where engineers are expected to contribute across development, automated validation, performance, operational readiness, and service reliability. The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex technical challenges, takes ownership from design through production, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. While programming language experience, we expect engineers to incorporate AI-native engineering practices. Job Requirements •    Own the functional, performance and scalability of data plane rich with data management  •    Own features through the entire software lifecycle including design, implementation, testing, deployment, monitoring, and production support. •    Design, develop, and operate cloud-native services leveraging containers, microservices, distributed systems principles, and modern CI/CD practices. •    Drive engineering excellence through automated testing, code reviews, operational readiness, and continuous improvement initiatives. •    Collaborate across engineering teams to deliver end-to-end solutions spanning storage, networking, cloud infrastructure, security, observability, and customer-facing experiences. •    Participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, and code reviews to help drive technical excellence and engineering best practices. •    Troubleshoot complex production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term reliability, scalability, and operational improvements. •    Work closely with product management, architects, and partner teams to translate customer and business requirements into high-quality technical solutions. •    Effectively communicate technical concepts, design tradeoffs, and project status to stakeholders across the organization. •    Contribute to the technical growth of the team through knowledge sharing, code reviews, design discussions, and mentorship opportunities. Education •    12+ years of experience in software/systems engineering. •    5+ years of experience in data management systems & storage platforms for managing and storing data across various workloads and environments.
