AWS

About this role

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

Job Summary

We are looking for a detail-oriented, technically skilled Rack Lifecycle Tech to join our Rack Lifecycle Team within AWS Infrastructure Operations. In this individual contributor role, you will be a hands-on executor responsible for the physical installation, cabling, handoff, and decommissioning of racks across your assigned data center site. You are the person on the floor who turns capacity plans into operational reality. As a Rack Lifecycle Tech, you will execute structured cabling, rack installation, and decommission activities with precision and to standard — following established SOPs, escalating deviations to your team lead, and ensuring every rack you touch is installed correctly, cabled to specification, fully documented, and handed off with zero blockers. This is an individual contributor role with no people management responsibilities. Your work is foundational to AWS’s ability to deliver infrastructure capacity to customers reliably, safely, and at the lowest possible cost. Key job responsibilities 🔷 Rack Installation & Cabling · Execute rack installations including physical placement, power connections, grounding, and cable management per AWS standards and MOPs · Perform structured cabling including fiber/copper terminations, patch panel connections, labeling, and dressing to specification · Complete OTDR and power testing; validate results against acceptance thresholds; escalate failures to team lead promptly rather than self-resolving outside approved procedures · Follow all EHS protocols, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and safe work practices during installation activities 🔷 Rack Lifecycle Operations · Execute work orders and tasks assigned by the Rack Lifecycle Team Manager under direct manager direction, maintaining accurate status updates in workflow management tools (e.g., Boost, MARS) · Perform quality checks on completed cabling work including port map verification, label accuracy, and as-built documentation updates in CMDB/DCIM · Identify and escalate issues, blockers, or deviations from SOPs encountered during task execution to the team lead or manager promptly; do not self-resolve outside approved procedures · Support deployment wave readiness by participating in pre-work site walks, material staging, and tool preparation 🔷 Material Handling & Supply Chain Support · Receive, verify, and stage incoming rack, cable, optics, and hardware deliveries; validate against BOM and flag discrepancies · Maintain accurate site inventory records for cables, optics, patch cords, and consumables used during deployments · Support cycle count activities and assist in identifying inventory shortfalls that may impact deployment timelines 🔷 Handover & Documentation · Complete all required as-built documentation, port maps, test result records, and workflow sign-offs before handoff to Data Center Operations · Update CMDB/DCIM and IPAM records accurately following rack installation or decommission
