Meet the Team Cloud Security Engineering at Cisco develops technology that helps customers secure their networks and users. Within the organization, the SSE Control Plane team builds and operates core control-plane services for Cisco Umbrella and Cisco Secure Access. The team focuses on key microservices that support Unified Policy and the Distribution Engine. Team members work closely with other Cloud Security Engineering teams and engineering groups across Cisco. The environment supports learning, experimentation, and solving high-impact security challenges.
Your Impact
Shape the architecture, design, development, and operation of backend microservices for the SSE Control Plane as a Software Engineering Technical Leader. Architect, build, and optimize scalable applications and APIs, using AI-assisted development tools across the software development lifecycle. Engineer reliable cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines to improve the transition from development to production. Maintain system health and security through proactive monitoring, cross-platform troubleshooting, and participation in on-call rotations. Provide architectural guidance and technical leadership, collaborate across functions, and evaluate emerging technologies to strengthen the organization’s technology stack. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, with knowledge of networking and security concepts such as routing, firewalls, and gateways. At least 8 years of experience in software development, with strong expertise in distributed systems, microservices, and cloud-native architecture. Knowledge of software development and system administration principles. Experience programming or scripting in Python, Java, Go , or a similar language. Working knowledge of Unix/Linux operating systems.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with container technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes. Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Ability to learn and adapt in a fast-paced, changing environment.
