About this role
Block is one company built from many blocks, all united by the same purpose of economic empowerment. The blocks that form our foundational teams — People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more — provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block.
The Role
Block's Total Rewards team is building a scalable, technology-enabled compensation function supporting 6,000+ employees. As a Compensation Business Partner, you will serve as a senior strategic advisor and "full-stack" professional - equally comfortable advising the C-suite on equity structures, driving annual comp cycles end-to-end, and co-building the programs and tools that power our Total Rewards strategy.
You Will
• Partner with client groups as their dedicated Compensation advisor on org design, job architecture, pay-for-performance, and competitive positioning
• Collaborate with Talent Acquisition and HRBPs to navigate complex global offer approvals, retention risks, and internal mobility requests
• Build and manage annual merit, equity, and promotion budget forecasts with Finance, including scenario modeling for reorgs and market adjustments
• Monitor compensation spend against plan, surfacing variance analysis and recommendations to leadership
• Lead end-to-end execution of the Q1 Annual Compensation Cycle - cost modeling, manager comms, and budget deployment across all business units
• Own executive compensation benchmarking, offer design, and annual review for VP+ roles, including LTI modeling and total direct compensation analysis
• Partner with Total Rewards leadership and Legal to prepare Compensation Committee and Board materials, including proxy data and pay-for-performance narratives
• Collaborate with the Automation & Tooling Specialist to design and deploy compensation dashboards and automated workflows
• Support centralized queues for offer approvals, transfers, and policy inquiries on a rotating basis, identifying trends to improve self-service resolutions
You Have
• 10+ years of progressive Total Rewards experience blending broad-based Compensation Business Partnering with Executive Compensation exposure
• Executive presence with a track record of influencing senior leaders on complex compensation matters
• Deep fluency in equity mechanics, market pricing methodologies, comp survey analysis, and budget forecasting
• Proficiency with enterprise HCMs (e.g., Workday) and compensation planning software
• Strong financial modeling and scenario planning skills with meticulous attention to data integrity
• A builder mindset - comfortable pivoting between strategic advisory and hands-on tool and program development
