Fleet Transport Manager Location: Coatbridge Work Pattern: Full Time, Permanent* Salary: £55,000 - £60,000 per annum (Dependant on exp) Summary of Role We have an exciting opportunity for a Fleet Transport Manager to join our Coatbridge Service Centre. Reporting to the Regional General Manager, you will form part of the site's senior management team and take overall responsibility for the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of the transport function. Leading a team of Driver Team Managers and over 100 drivers, alongside agency colleagues during peak periods, you will ensure the delivery of exceptional customer service whilst maintaining productivity, compliance, and operational performance standards. The role is responsible for the movement of materials, products, and temperature-sensitive shipments across the network, ensuring all deliveries are completed safely, securely, and in line with regulatory requirements. As a forward-thinking leader, you will drive continuous improvement initiatives, optimise transport operations, and support business change programmes. This is a senior operational role requiring flexibility, participation in on-call and weekend management rotas, and occasional travel to operational sites and link points across the network.
Responsibilities
Lead the day-to-day transport operation, ensuring service, productivity, safety, and compliance KPIs are achieved. Provide leadership and direction to Driver Team Managers, drivers, and agency colleagues, creating a high-performing and engaged workforce. Ensure the highest standards of health and safety are implemented and maintained in line with company policies and legislative requirements. Manage a temperature-controlled fleet of vans and LGVs, ensuring compliance throughout the entire delivery cycle. Oversee the safe, secure, and compliant movement of materials, products, and temperature-sensitive shipments across the network. Manage transport budgets, labour costs, fleet utilisation, route optimisation, and operational efficiencies. Develop succession plans, performance management processes, and training initiatives to support team growth and capability. Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities, collaborating with internal stakeholders and customers to enhance service delivery. . Skills and Knowledge Previous experience managing transport operations within a fast-paced distribution, logistics, or delivery environment. Proven leadership experience managing large teams, including drivers, transport managers, and agency workforce. Strong knowledge of transport legislation, fleet compliance, operator licence requirements, and health and safety standards. Ability to manage budgets, labour costs, service performance, and operational KPIs. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at all levels. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills within a complex operational environment. CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence) qualification is essential. Full UK driving licence. Desirable Experience managing temperature-controlled transport operations. Experience within healthcare, pharmaceutical, scientific, or other highly regulated environments. Knowledge of route optimisation, sustainability initiatives, and transport improvement programmes. Experience leading large-scale operational change projects. Multi-site transport or distribution management experience.
