BNY is seeking a Senior Vice President, Operational Risk to provide dedicated second line operational risk oversight for Global Payments and Trade activities within the European Bank. This role will focus on the oversight of operational risk issues arising from payments, cash management, trade finance, servicing, process execution, control environment weaknesses, and remediation activities across the European Bank. The position will serve as a key risk partner to business, operations, and functional stakeholders supporting Global Payments and Trade, ensuring that operational risk issues are appropriately identified, assessed, escalated, and remediated in line with internal risk management standards and applicable European regulatory expectations. The role requires strong knowledge of operational risk governance, issue management, control design and effectiveness, and the operational complexities associated with payments and trade products in a regulated banking environment.
Key Responsibilities
Provide independent second line operational risk oversight for Global Payments and Trade activities within the European Bank, with a focus on operational risk issues, control weaknesses, and remediation actions. Review and challenge the identification, assessment, prioritization, and closure of operational risk issues impacting payments and trade processes, products, services, and supporting infrastructure. Monitor issue remediation plans to ensure corrective actions are appropriately designed, address root cause, and result in sustainable control enhancements. Partner with first line business, operations, and support functions involved in Global Payments and Trade to ensure transparent escalation and effective management of operational risk exposures. Assess risks arising from payment processing, trade execution and servicing, manual processes, process breaks, exception management, operational resilience concerns, and control deficiencies. Challenge stakeholders on the quality of root cause analysis, action plans, target dates, accountability, and evidence supporting closure of issues. Identify thematic trends across operational risk events, audit findings, self-identified issues, and regulatory matters affecting Global Payments and Trade within the European Bank. Support governance and reporting routines for senior management and risk committees, including preparation of concise summaries of key issues, thematic risks, remediation status, and emerging concerns. Provide risk advisory support on business changes, process changes, control enhancements, and risk matters affecting payments and trade activities in the European Bank. Work closely with Compliance, Legal, Internal Audit, Technology, Operations, and business control stakeholders on cross-functional operational risk matters. Support oversight of issues associated with processing risk, transaction execution, operational dependencies, third-party impacts, control effectiveness, and service delivery risk. Contribute to the enhancement of operational risk frameworks, issue management practices, reporting, and thematic risk analysis relevant to Global Payments and Trade. Support regulatory reviews, internal governance reviews, and senior management requests relating to operational risk matters within the European Bank.
Required Qualifications
Significant experience in operational risk, risk governance, audit, controls, or compliance, ideally within payments, treasury services, transaction banking, trade finance, or related banking operations. Strong experience in issue management, remediation oversight, control assessment, and root cause review. Sound understanding of operational risks associated with payments, cash management, trade products, servicing operations, and transaction processing environments. Experience operating in a highly regulated banking environment, preferably with exposure to European legal entity governance or EU regulatory expectations. Demonstrated ability to
