About this role

Responsibilities

Responsible for overseeing the daily operations and management of Southgate School, a facility school at Cedar Springs. This includes supervising all staff at Southgate School under the direction of the Special Education Director, when applicable. The role involves conducting and managing all Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to ensure compliance for students transitioning in and out of Southgate School, as well as handling reevaluations and other essential duties as assigned.

Qualifications

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: * Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. * Frequently stands, walks, kneels, reaches while working with patients/students. * Requires full range of body motion including handling and physical restraint of patients. * Ability to perform CPR and First Aid. Ability to drive a vehicle if necessary. * Ability to type and use a computer based programs (Infinite Campus/Project Education) * Must be able to articulate effectively via multiple platforms (email, phone calls, meetings, etc.) * Requires timely maintenance of IEPs, conducting meetings for transfer, annual re-evaluations, and necessary assessments for the student’s IEP. * Ability to visually supervise patients/students and hear requests for assistance from patients/students and staff. * Able to problem solve situations under stressful situations. * Emotional stability necessary to perform the essential functions of the job. * Vision and hearing sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.

SKILLS

The Special Education Coordinator should have a strong understanding of both federal and state education regulations and laws, applicable to both special education and general education. This role requires familiarity with the standards and requirements of various educational regulatory agencies. Key qualifications include leadership skills, creativity, high energy, strong organizational abilities, supervisory experience, and effective problem-solving skills. Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal capabilities, and customer service skills are essential. Proficiency in software programs such as Windows, Word, Excel, Infinite Campus, and Project Ed. is prefered. The special education manager must maintain confidentiality and possess knowledge of Joint Commission standards as well as DHS rules and regulations. Additionally, the ability to exercise independent judgment in planning and achieving goals is critical for success in this position EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION: Master's Degree in Special Education preferred, CDE certification in Special Education required. CDE certification in education required. Five (5) years working with special education students (SED/OHI) preferred and three (3) years administrative/supervisory experience preferred. Prefer individual who has worked in a facility school setting. LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: Special Education License by Colorado Department of Education is required. CPR and first aid certification as requested. STAFF DEVELOPMENT REQUIREMENTS: Must meet or exceed hospital and regulatory agency training requirements along with requirement to maintain the CDE License. EXPOSURE CATEGORY: I Performs tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues.
