Job Description
U.S. Bank seeks a career professional to lead and manage a small and critical team of paralegals supporting the Bank’s Trust Legal division. The person in this role supervises, leads, directs, and distributes work to paralegals and administrative assistant staff. A primary function of this position is the supervision and distribution of legal process for the Bank’s trust division, ensuring pleadings and correspondence are properly researched, identified, routed, and tendered to the appropriate party for action. The person in this role also oversees responses to subpoenas served on the Bank’s trust division. Another critical component of this position is researching accounts and account histories, legacy transactions, prior activities of the Bank and its affiliates, and historical records. This role involves the handling of sensitive and confidential matters, which requires sound judgment, discretion, and strict adherence to legal and regulatory requirements, all while continuing to manage workflow distribution, prioritize assignments, and oversee staff performance. Specific responsibilities include: Perform complex legal research using internal and external systems and databases Conduct in-depth analysis and review of trust accounts, acquisitions, and legacy matters Prioritize, coordinate, and oversee workflow, while managing complex or non-routine matters Oversee subpoena responses and similar legal procedural matters Support attorneys on a variety of projects, including conflict waivers, document review, affidavits, legal opinions, 50-state surveys, and foreign registrations and certifications Function as liaison among bank departments and also to external agencies Handle confidential and sensitive matters Assist with regulatory and compliance coordination Hire, train, mentor, and supervise staff This position is a hybrid role (60%+ in-office) with preference given to candidates in Minneapolis.
Basic Qualifications
Paralegal certificate Confident understanding of, and familiarity with, legal processes Previous management experience Preferred Skills/Experience: Advanced legal research skills Knowledge of banking and trust operations Familiarity with court systems, civil procedure, discovery, and legal databases Familiarity and comfortability using Westlaw, MERS, Pacer, and County Recorders’ records Assisting with board meetings, minutes, board resolutions, and related corporate governance issues Strong communication and organizational abilities Ability to address and manage multiple matters contemporaneously Leadership and team management skills Reliable problem-solving and critical thinking skills Motivated and driven self-starter, ability to work both independently and as part of a team Strong relationship-building and collaborative abilities Comfortability with increasing technological advancements Ability to manage confidential matters with discretion If there’s anything we can do to accommodate a disability during any portion of the application or hiring process, please refer to our disability accommodations for applicants .
