Palmetto Lowcountry Behavioral Health is now seeking to fill a Full-time Financial Counselor / Collector position Position Summary: Responsible for working all Self-Pay accounts. Will be responsible for meeting with the afternoon Outpatient accounts to complete the financial counseling paperwork and ensuring the demographics are correct and the insurance is verified. Accurately explains and educates the patient regarding their financial responsibility to the facility in a clear, concise, and professional manner at or before discharge. Talks with the patient or guarantor to collect entire self-pay amount or estimated out-of-pocket amount. Negotiates appropriate payment plans; screens patients who express a financial need or inability to pay; performs follow-up on all self-pay after insurance accounts. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Responsible for verifying insurance, credit reports, Medicare, and additional data for admission of patients Works with our Intake Dept., Utilization Review Dept., and our Outpatient Dept. to assure accurate insurance information Enters insurance and billing information into system for patients being admitted into our outpatient program, and backs up the admissions for inpatient and outpatient morning Prioritizes Self-Pay follow-up on accounts as appropriate, but no less than every 30 days Uploading paperwork into MS4 and Midas system Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Excellent telephone skills. Working knowledge of insurance terms, and reimbursement procedures, medical terminology, and hospital services, Ability to interact in a positive manner and to communicate well with patients, families, co-workers, supervisor, and other hospital employees in person and over the telephone, Provide assistance in the area of credit, collection, and patient billing operations to assure that hospital policy and procedures are maintained at all times, Skill in oral and written communication, organizational skills and interpersonal skills, skill in the operation of office equipment, Ability to work in behavioral health environment and observe the standards of care needed for patients. HIPAA: Has access to Medical Records of cases to which they are assigned work. Use of PHI is limited to assigned tasks.
