Job Duties and Responsibilities The Roku BrightScript Principal Engineer will join the Sling & DANY Client Platform Engineering team. The team spans client app development, SceneGraph architecture, QA automation, media playback, and AI-assisted SDLC, operating under a single shared codebase strategy. This team has direct product and engineering leadership visibility, building the foundational Roku platform that both Sling and DANY will run on through launch and beyond. Responsibilites expected from the SME: 1. Logic Audit & Translation Registry: Accurately map production OTT modules to BrightScript equivalents, identify high-complexity risks early (e.g., player state machines, DRM flows), and establish valid API contracts and state management patterns tailored to Roku’s architecture. 2. Core Runtime Architecture (Sling/DANY/Blockbuster App Convergence): Design a scalable scene stack, deep-linking routing architecture, and a thread-safe task model. Ensure the application shell interacts seamlessly with the Brightscript player module using optimized BrightScript runtime patterns. 3. SceneGraph Component Library & Performance Validation: Oversee the component library build. Review all AI/KIRO-generated code for SceneGraph performance correctness, enforcing strict standards around field observers, node creation patterns, focus chain integrity, and dynamic Sling/DANY/Blockbuster theming configuration. 4. CI/CD, AI SDLC Pipeline, & Device Lab Setup: Configure BrightScript-specific linting, static analysis, and anti-pattern detection hooks into the AI SDLC pipeline. Set up a physical device farm to benchmark target hardware tiers (e.g., 512MB RAM devices). 5. Dedicated Roku Automation Framework: Evaluate and implement specialized testing frameworks (e.g., Roku Automation Framework / RAF) to enable deep-link automation, SceneGraph node state inspection, and headless performance benchmarking (launch time, memory footprint, frame rate). Skills, Experience and Requirements Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline; Advanced degree (MS or equivalent) in a relevant field is a plus but not required Experience Requirements 12 - 16 years of professional software engineering experience with at least 5+ years focused on Roku/BrightScript production application development Demonstrated experience shipping and maintaining a production BrightScript application through full Roku Channel Certification Proven track record of leading architecture design on a multi-engineer client application project Experience working from a reference implementation or behavioral specification as the
