Job Summary
Serve as the enclosure design lead within a cross-functional project team for the highly complex products such as BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) product. This role is responsible for owning and completing the enclosure design, ensuring technical milestones are achieved, and guiding other mechanical design engineers through the enclosure design process. The design lead must be capable of independently leading technical design reviews with internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating experiences releasing products into a production environment, and be familiar with enclosure production equipment and manufacturing processes. Location: This role will be based at Jabil's Huangpu office in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Lead the large enclosure concept design and evaluation for the projects in scoping phase. Lead the large enclosure design and integration for the projects in execution phase and deliver the enclosure design and bring the design into mass production based on the project planning, design and production processes. Lead/supervise other mechanical design engineers for the enclosure design. Partners with system architects to review and clarify design requirements, is capable to decompose product requirements into enclosure design requirements, and define the appropriate enclosure architecture, cost estimates, and verification and testing for enclosure design. Work with PV (product verification) team, customer team and even production team on the design verification and process validations. Work with and manage external part suppliers/tool makers to bring the enclosure design into mass production. Communicates technical aspects of a project effectively to customers. Leads resolution of complex design issues and manages design trade-offs. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Job qualifications Technical Knowledge & Skills Expertise in sheet metal design, including heavy-gauge steel and aluminum, to ensure structural integrity for transportation loads and seismic requirements such as IBC and IEEE. Master with CAD/PDM tools such as Creo, SolidWorks, NX, Teamcenter, Windchill, or similar. Capable to perform tolerance stack-up analysis for complex applications, with a deep understanding of component of variation. Strong knowledge and experience in DFM, DFA, DFAA (Design for Automation and Assembly) and DFS (Design for Service). Experience with large-scale outdoor enclosures, preferably BESS, power electronics, telecom, or industrial cabinets. Familiar with IP/NEMA ratings, corrosion protection, sealing/gasketing, thermal expansion, and environmental durability . Deep understanding manufacturing processes such as welding, bending, powder coating, machining, fastening, sealing, and assembly. Deep understanding structural simulations and able to adjust enclosure design to pass structure simulations. Know how to define cooling requirements, perform thermal tradeoff analyses, and integrate air-cooling and/or liquid-cooling solutions into product designs. Know how to apply fire & safety standards related to enclosure design, like UL 9540 / UL 9540A, NFPA
