About this role
Citi is looking for a Senior Credit Underwriter to join its Institutional Credit Management (ICM) team, a first-line-of-defense credit function responsible for end-to-end wholesale credit underwriting across Citi's institutional client base. In this Vice President-level role, you will own credit underwriting and portfolio monitoring for a dedicated book of APAC Real Money Funds clients — including pension funds, investment managers, and treasury-focused counterparties — working directly alongside traders, markets professionals, and risk approvers. Your work will directly shape credit decisions on complex capital markets exposures, including derivatives, fixed income, foreign exchange, and securities, making this a high-impact opportunity at the intersection of credit risk, market products, and client partnership.
Responsibilities
Manage end-to-end credit underwriting for a portfolio of APAC Real Money Funds clients, covering counterparty credit risk across derivatives, fixed income, foreign exchange, securities, and treasury products. Author and approve Credit Approval Memos, leading the full underwriting cycle from early origination discussions through senior credit approval forums. Monitor portfolio health on an ongoing basis, producing annual and quarterly credit reviews, stress testing analyses, and ad-hoc portfolio and industry assessments. Review and challenge financial analysis, projection modelling, risk ratings, and due diligence work produced by junior team members, ensuring analytical rigour and accuracy. Partner with Front Office and Markets teams to structure new transactions, collaborating on term sheets and advising on risk/return trade-offs for client relationships. Engage with regulators, Internal Audit, and internal control functions, ensuring the portfolio meets applicable credit risk management standards and regulatory expectations. Build and sustain strong working relationships with Banking, Risk, and product partners across geographies, breaking down silos to deliver consistent, well-reasoned credit decisions. Required Qualifications & Skills Six to ten years of credit risk or credit-related experience within banking or financial institutions, with a focus on counterparty credit, capital markets, or wholesale credit underwriting. Demonstrated ability to assess complex capital markets exposures across derivatives, fixed income, foreign exchange, securities, and fund structures, including an understanding of how counterparty risk is measured and managed. Senior credit approval experience covering large and complex underwritings, capital commitments, and multi-product derivative transactions. Ability to engage confidently with regulators, Internal Audit, and Fundamental Credit Risk teams, with a clear record of maintaining strong governance standards. Sound judgement in high-pressure environments, with the ability to make well-reasoned credit decisions within tight timelines. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex credit analysis clearly to senior stakeholders, approval forums, and external parties. Bachelor's degree or equivalent university qualification as a minimum requirement. Beneficial Skills & Qualifications Master's degree in finance, economics, or a related discipline. Familiarity with APAC market dynamics, local regulatory frameworks, and the competitive landscape for institutional fund clients in the region. Experience working across global credit risk management frameworks, with exposure to cross-border underwriting standards and multi-geography credit platforms. Track record of collaborating with global peers to implement best-practice credit approaches across a complex, matrixed organization.
