A Day in the Life You will be a member of the Acute Care & Monitoring (ACM) product development team. Specifically, you will join an R&D team creating category-redefining products for the high-growth airway management portfolio. Our team originated from Medtronic’s acquisition of Aircraft Medical and combines the agility of a startup with the support of an established manufacturer. This position is responsible for supporting the development of specialized embedded software systems for healthcare workers, specifically related to airway management in acute care settings such as the operating room, intensive care unit, and emergency department. As an Embedded Software Engineer Jr, you will work closely with cross-functional team members, including software, hardware, mechanical, and systems engineers, to help build the embedded device. You will contribute at the junction of user experience and software engineering, applying sound technical judgment to solve problems and support product development goals. Work is performed in a team setting with guidance from senior engineers and technical leads.
Primary Responsibilities
Contribute to software development activities including requirements, design, implementation, integration, testing, and maintenance. Develop, debug, and maintain embedded software components in C and C++. Support development in Linux-based embedded environments, including application-level software and device interfaces. Assist with integration of software and hardware components such as cameras, displays, sensors, and communication interfaces. Participate in code reviews, unit testing, integration testing, and software verification activities. Generate and maintain technical documentation to support product development in a regulated environment. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to investigate issues, support root-cause analysis, and implement effective solutions. Contribute to software features or prototypes involving image-based workflows, computer vision, or machine learning under guidance from senior team members. Support development and maintenance of internal software tools and scripts as needed.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field with 2 years of relevant experience OR a Master’s degree with 0 years of relevant experience Professional or academic experience coding in C and C++. Professional or academic experience in embedded systems development. Familiarity with Linux-based development environments. Professional or academic experience in computer vision or machine learning Understanding of software development fundamentals, version control, and debugging.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Python or shell scripting. Familiarity with embedded graphics or GUI libraries such as Qt or LVGL. Exposure to image processing, camera systems, or video pipelines. Exposure to machine learning frameworks or model deployment workflows. Familiarity with communication interfaces such as USB, UART, I2C, and SPI. Experience in a regulated development environment such as medical devices, aerospace, or defense. For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required. Physical Job Requirements The above
