About the Opportunity The Food Service Assistant supports daily café and catering operations by maintaining a clean, safe, and organized food service environment. This position assists with food service support functions, inventory management, catering delivery, and customer service while ensuring compliance with food safety and sanitation standards.
Primary Responsibilities
Perform kitchen utility and sanitation functions, including: Properly sorting, washing, sanitizing, and storing dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment. Maintaining a clean, organized kitchen and work environment in accordance with FDA Food Code regulations and company cleanliness standards. Assisting with routine cleaning and sanitation of food preparation, service, and storage areas. Maintain café inventory and presentation by stocking and replenishing grab-and-go items, display cases, beverages, and related supplies. Support catering operations through the delivery, setup, retrieval, and breakdown of catering orders throughout the facility. Collaborate with leadership and team members by following established procedures and providing operational support as needed. Demonstrate a willingness to learn food service fundamentals, including: Food safety and sanitation practices Inventory management and product rotation Procurement procedures Customer service principles Proper knife handling and food preparation techniques Personal hygiene standards Exercise sound judgment and problem-solving skills by identifying opportunities for process improvement and providing effective solutions to support customers and operational objectives. Provide excellent customer service by interacting professionally with customers, responding to requests, and supporting a positive café experience. Assist with receiving and organizing deliveries, ensuring products are properly stored and rotated according to established food safety guidelines.
Qualifications
Demonstrate a positive, questioning attitude focused on continuous learning and process improvement. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. High school diploma or GED required. Ability to perform physical duties, including bending, stooping, lifting up to 50 pounds, and standing or walking for extended periods. ServSafe Manager Certification must be obtained within six (6) months of hire if not currently held. Effective time management and organizational skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook and Word. Ability to consistently produce quality, accurate work and meet established deadlines. Ability to follow food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety procedures. Prior food service, hospitality, catering, or customer service experience preferred but not required.
