SUMMARY
Seeking a candidate with quantitative aptitude and an interest in investment models, data analytics, and model risk management. The role supports the oversight, monitoring, testing, and documentation of investment and AI-enabled models used across Northern Trust Asset Management. The successful candidate will apply statistical and analytical techniques to evaluate model performance, automate monitoring activities, analyze model data, and support model governance requirements. Candidates should possess a strong analytical foundation, programming skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly. Works with moderate guidance while developing knowledge of investment processes, model risk management practices, and applicable regulatory expectations. MAJOR DUTIES Perform quantitative analysis of investment and AI-enabled models. Support model monitoring activities, including performance testing, threshold monitoring, trend analysis, and investigation of model performance issues. Develop and maintain analytical tools, scripts, and dashboards used for model oversight and reporting. Analyze large datasets to identify patterns, anomalies, and emerging risks. Assist in the design, automation, and execution of model controls and monitoring processes. Prepare model governance documentation, monitoring reports, committee materials, and supporting analysis. Partner with model users, technology teams, and business stakeholders to understand model methodologies, data flows, and key assumptions. Support model inventory, risk assessments, validation activities, and regulatory requests. Apply established policies, standards, and procedures while exercising judgment in routine analytical situations. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS Requires conceptual knowledge in quantitative analysis, statistics, data science, investments, financial markets, or a related discipline. Strong quantitative and analytical background. Familiarity with statistical methods, mathematical modeling, machine learning, and artificial intelligence concepts preferred. Experience with data analytics tools including Python, SQL, Power BI, or similar technologies. Experience working with large datasets and data visualization techniques. Demonstrates intellectual curiosity and ability to learn new concepts, technologies, and business processes. Explains complex information to others in straightforward situations.
EXPERIENCE
For internal applications - 24 months as Associate Analyst/Associate Consultant/Technical Coordinator(currently P1) Degree in a designated STEM field including mathematics, statistics, physics, engineering, computer science, quantitative finance, economics, or similar disciplines. Advanced degree preferred. Postgraduate degree or 2-5+ years of experience in quantitative analysis, data science, analytics, risk management, investment analysis, or a related field. Demonstrated experience applying analytical techniques to solve complex problems. Experience with programming, automation, statistical analysis, or data-driven research preferred.
