About this role
About the role
Muon Space is hiring a Product Manager to own the software that runs on our spacecraft. Reporting to a Director of Product Management, you will own the end-to-end capabilities and roadmap for the flight software platform and onboard compute, so that our spacecraft meet customer mission needs.
This position is hybrid and requires working on-site in our San Jose, CA office three days per week.
Responsibilities
Flight Platform and Onboard Compute
• Own the product roadmaps for the flight software platform and onboard compute.
• Define and prioritize features that improve product quality, schedule adherence, or customer value.
• Author clear Product Requirements Documents (PRDs), drive alignment, and follow through reliably.
• Partner with the Director of Product Management to develop the strategy for the product areas including build/buy decisions.
• Conduct customer interviews, gather feedback on product–market fit, and translate insights into product artifacts and roadmap decisions.
Cross-functional Coordination
• Partner closely with engineering teams across flight software, hardware, and mission systems to define features and roadmap.
• Partner with other software product managers on roadmaps where capabilities intersect.
• Coordinate with the Director of PM — Federal on defense-aligned product needs and inputs to roadmap.
• Collaborate with the VP of Product and the broader PM team on strategic roadmap decisions and prioritization trade-offs.
Required Qualifications
• 3–5 years of Product Management experience, with demonstrated success owning software products in technically complex environments.
• Experience in flight software, embedded systems, robotics, or adjacent deep-tech software domains.
• Experience working cross-functionally with multiple engineering teams at once, rather than a single team.
• Demonstrated success in uncertain environments with incomplete requirements and shifting schedules.
• Proven track record delivering major features or programs spanning multiple months of effort.
• History of independent execution and implementation across multiple concurrent workstreams.
• Strong fluency working with engineering peers and leadership; able to influence cross-organizational technical investment without direct authority.
• Demonstrated ability to translate customer mission needs into detailed product requirements and acceptance criteria across software systems.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred.
Nice-to-have Skills
• Active U.S. Government security clearance.
• Familiarity with flight software, embedded systems, or real-time operating systems.
• Familiarity with onboard or edge compute and the trade-offs between processing on orbit and on the ground.
• Familiarity with building or operating software for the space environment.
• Prior experience in startup or high-growth technology environments.
Salary
The salary range for this role is $177,000 - $203,000, plus a competitive equity grant and comprehensive benefits package. Final compensation will be determined based on skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location as assessed during the interview process.
