Grade Level (for internal use): 12 Role: Lead II , Software Engineering Team: Enterprise Data Organization | Distribution and Data Platforms – Data Management Tech | External Knowledge Platforms Role Summary: As an individual contributor on the External Knowledge Platforms team, the Lead II, Software Engineering is responsible for developing, deploying, maintaining, and supporting cloud-native capabilities that power S&P Global's public-facing Open Data and Open Metadata platforms. This role combines domain expertise in Software, Cloud, and Data Engineering with practical ownership of serverless backend and single-page application delivery, in support of enabling reliable, secure, and scalable knowledge platform services.
Key Responsibilities
In partnership with Product and senior engineering leadership, contributing to the implementation of the engineering roadmap for External Knowledge Platforms, including integration with enterprise and third-party data services. Supporting the end-to-end software development lifecycle, including requirements refinement, application development, testing, cloud-native deployment automation, and production support. Designing, building, and maintaining serverless backend solutions using AWS Lambda, Step Functions, and S3 to support externally consumed Open Data and Open Metadata capabilities. Developing and enhancing single-page application frontends using Angular and CloudFront-based delivery patterns, ensuring high availability and consistent user experience at internet scale. Building and maintaining reusable integration capabilities and platform tooling that accelerate delivery across knowledge platform services. Monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving application and platform issues, with a focus on reliability, maintainability, and operational excellence. Ensuring systems are secure, compliant, auditable, and observable in alignment with Enterprise standards. Taking ownership of assigned services and components, including maintenance, support, documentation, and lifecycle management.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science , Software Engineering, or a related field. 8 + years of progressive experience in Software Engineering. Strong knowledge and hands-on experience building cloud-native and serverless solutions in AWS. Experience and comfort developing modern Java, Python, and TypeScript software. Experience and comfort implementing and working within CICD / IAC processes (GitHub Actions, Terraform). Proven ability to build, maintain, and support software solutions in complex, data-driven environments. Experience with production support, issue resolution, application maintenance, and continuous improvement of software systems. Agile mindset, with the ability to work effectively through change and shifting priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated experience developing microservice architectures and event-driven systems handling both high-volume and high-velocity data. Experience delivering public internet-facing APIs, metadata services, or data products with strong reliability and security controls. Experience building or supporting Open Data or Open Metadata platform capabilities, including exposure to semantic technologies . P ractical experience with ontology and taxonomy design principles . Experience with CloudFront-based frontend delivery and Angular single-page application architecture. Familiarity with complexities of multi-cloud application development leveraging AWS, GCP, and Azure technologies. What’s In It For You?
