Overview
Microsoft Cloud Operations and Innovation (CO&I) is the team behind the cloud. Within CO&I, the Engineering Procurement & Construction (EPC) organization is responsible for delivering core datacenter infrastructure for Microsoft’s cloud business. The MS portfolio consists of complex, multi-disciplinary, large scale, multi-year datacenter construction and lease projects. We are looking for a passionate, high-energy individual to help build the cloud datacenters that power the world’s largest online services. To help us achieve our objectives, growth, and transformation, we are looking for a Cost Lead for the Vaasa, Finland Metro to work alongside the EPC in country to commercially manage all data center construction projects in the region. Relocation support may be provided, and successful candidates must relocate or reside within 50 miles of the specified location. This role is not eligible for hybrid or remote work.
Responsibilities
Lead the commercial management of data centre construction projects across the region, partnering with design, engineering, construction, finance, scheduling and project controls teams to deliver projects within approved scope, schedule and budget. Provide commercial leadership throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring Microsoft is financially and contractually protected while managing commercial risks, disputes and contractual matters. Develop detailed project estimates, support business case development, validate contractor pricing and provide commercial input into funding requests and investment decisions. Manage contract administration activities including payment applications, change orders, procurement reviews, vendor invoicing and final account settlement. Lead Quantity Surveying partners and commercial resources, ensuring appropriate support, capability and performance across the regional project portfolio. Deliver commercial governance and reporting, including monthly business reviews, cost reporting and performance updates for regional and EMEA leadership teams. Provide strategic commercial support for design development, value engineering, site selection, constructability reviews and continuous improvement of commercial processes and best practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Quantity surveying, Construction Project Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field OR equivalent experience. Experience in Leadership experience in Construction Projects Experience delivering cost management on datacentre construction projects Experience of construction-phase commercial delivery, including general contractor procurement, change management, review of subcontractor costs and pay applications, and final account settlement Experience delivering on projects with individual build values in excess of $500M Clear understanding of the full construction lifecycle While not required, we also look for the following Preferred Qualifications: Strong Power BI, Excel, reporting and tracking tooling Clear executive-level written communication Comfort operating in ambiguity and cross-functional forums Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) full membership or equivalent English working proficiency Background Check Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role.
