About this role
Amazon has a history and tradition of leading the world in web-related technologies and services. One of those products is Amazon Web Services (AWS). Since early 2006, AWS has provided companies of all sizes with an infrastructure platform in the cloud. AWS needs individuals that bring the accounting experience AND the entrepreneurial aptitude to accelerate decision making and management of the business and accounting. Also needed is the intellectual capacity to produce innovative ideas/analysis and the willingness to do the heavy lifting to implement those decisions. On the AWS Supply Chain Accounting team, you will own the end-to-end accounting for new financing initiatives that support AWS’s global infrastructure expansion. This includes server leasing, server rack component financing/leasing arrangements, and other emerging capital programs. You will be surrounded by people that are exceptionally talented, bright, and driven, and believe that world class support is critical to customer and AWS success. To support this quickly growing business, you must be highly analytical and possess a strong passion for analytics and accountability, setting high standards, and razor-sharp accuracy. We take working hard, having fun, and making history seriously – you should too! As the Accounting Manager, you will serve as the single-threaded owner of accounting policy, controls, and reporting for AWS Supply Chain’s leasing and financing portfolio. Your ability to make a difference and take ownership begins on Day One. You will partner cross-functionally with Finance, Business, Treasury, Tax, Legal, FP&A, and Tech teams to stand up new accounting frameworks, drive system implementations and ensure compliance with relevant Accounting standards. You will contribute to optimize AWS’s supply chain, capturing operational benefits in terms of continuity of supply and cost efficiency. Key job responsibilities This position will have responsibility for: • Own the end-to-end accounting lifecycle for AWS Supply Chain leasing and financing transactions. • Lead the implementation of ASC 842 accounting procedures for new and evolving lease structures across AWS infrastructure. • Drive the design and execution of accounting processes in Amazon systems to support lease and financing origination, modification, and termination workflows. • Develop and maintain lease and financing accounting models, including present value calculations, classification assessments, and ongoing measurement under ASC 842. • Partner with Treasury, Tax, Legal, FP&A, Finance, Business and Tech teams to evaluate new financing structures and provide accounting guidance on proposed transactions. • Design, implement, and maintain internal controls (SOX-compliant) over leasing and financing processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and disclosures. • Prepare and review technical accounting memos for complex lease/financing arrangements, including sale-leaseback, variable lease payments, and embedded lease assessments. • Own monthly close activities for the leasing and financing portfolio, including journal entries, flux analysis, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial statement disclosures. • Lead cross-functional projects to stand up new leasing and financing programs, coordinating requirements across accounting, systems, operations, and business teams. • Identify and drive process improvement and automation opportunities to scale leasing and financing operations and enhance the control environment.
