Locations In this role you can work from Remote, United Kingdom Overview   GitHub is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead and grow a distributed engineering team (across Europe, US and Canada) in the GitHub code scanning group. We are passionate about ensuring the security and quality of the world’s software - from open source to the enterprise. We believe that the best way to secure and improve the quality of software is to detect actionable issues early in the development process and actively facilitate their remediation as part of the developer workflow.    Our team develops the CodeQL detection engine — GitHub's semantic code analysis technology that powers the GitHub Code Scanning product, used by hundreds of thousands of developers daily as part of GitHub's Advanced Security offering. Leveraging world-class static analysis research, CodeQL deeply analyses code to detect security vulnerabilities and correctness errors early across 10 supported languages, including C/C++, C#, Go, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Kotlin, Python, Ruby, and Swift. The team is responsible for how CodeQL understands code across these languages: we build and maintain the extractors that produce CodeQL databases and the libraries that model each language's structure and semantics. We maintain consistent feature coverage and support frequent language-version updates to keep CodeQL broadly available.   You’ll create the conditions for teams to succeed by establishing effective development and quality practices, supporting thoughtful desi gn and dependency management, and championing proactive approaches to reliability, testing, and operational health. As a senior people leader, you’ll coach and develop engineers and managers, model strong collaboration, and foster a culture of learning, ownership, and continuous improvement Responsibilities Drive and support technical roadmap that aligns with product goals, ensuring that engineering efforts are strategically prioritized and incorporating the adoption of new technologies and methodologies where applicable.    Facilitate cross-team communications, identify dependencies, and resolve conflicts to ensure seamless integration and support across products, applications, and services.   Drive employee growth and development, manage performance, and ensure the engineering team's skills remain current by staying abreast of industry developments and best practices.   Guide teams in designing scalable, secure, and observable systems that meet business and technical requirements.   Champion experimentation and telemetry-driven development, enabling rapid iteration and data-informed decisions.   Drive engineering excellence through automation, tooling, and standardization across deployment, testing, and operations.   Own incident response and reliability practices, ensuring we meet SLOs and postmortems drive systemic improvements.

Required Qualifications 6+ years experience in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience maintaining and delivering production software coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python   OR Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 5+ years experience in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience maintaining and delivering production software coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go,
