As a Security Engineer II at JPMorgan Chase within the Cybersecurity & Tech Controls yo u are part of an agile team that works to deliver software solutions that satisfy pre-defined functional and user requirements with the added dimension of preventing misuse, circumvention, and malicious behavior. As an emerging member of the security engineering team, you execute basic software solutions through the design, development, and troubleshooting of multiple components within a technical area, while gaining skills and experience to grow within your role.
Job responsibilities
Executes standard security solutions in accordance with existing playbooks to satisfy security requirements for internal clients (e.g., product, platform, and application owners) Uses enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within the work environment to accelerate vulnerability analysis synthesis and security documentation, validating outputs and ensuring sensitive data is handled appropriately Design and develop secure backend services using Java (17+) and Spring Boot Develop and maintain secure REST APIs for internal and external consumers Build and maintain microservices and distributed backend components Build and operate cloud-native applications on AWS Implement security best practices across infrastructure layers aligned to AWS services and configurations Work on encryption, key management, and data protection solutions Contribute to threat modeling, vulnerability remediation, and audit readiness activities Improve system reliability, observability, and resilience through engineering best practices Applies reuse-first, AI-assisted practices within SDLC/toolchain routines to strengthen security testing and control validation, ensuring traceability/auditability and alignment to resiliency and security expectations. Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills Formal training or certification on security engineering concepts and 2+ years applied experience Strong hands-on experience in Java (17+) Experience developing services using Spring Boot and microservices architecture Ability to review and validate AI-assisted code/security recommendations before use, escalating when uncertain and following security and data handling requirements Experience building REST APIs and working with distributed systems Experience with AWS services, including compute and networking fundamentals Working knowledge of AWS IAM basics Understanding of secure coding practices and application security principles Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices Working knowledge of using enterprise-authorized AI capabilities within the work environment to support security engineering workflows with strong validation habits and awareness of data sensitivity Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills Apply working knowledge of React for frontend basics or full-stack exposure Leverage AI/GenAI tools and use cases to improve developer productivity Use tools like GitHub Copilot (or similar) to accelerate development workflows Work with Kubernetes and container platforms in cloud-native environments
