Job Description

The Data Protection Counsel – Information Security serves as a member of the Motorola Solutions, Inc. Data Protection - Products team and a subject matter expert on privacy and security compliance. While the Data Protection Counsel will report to the Sr. Director, Data Protection - Products, he/she will also work closely and collaboratively with the services organization, internal product, engineering, legal, cybersecurity, compliance operations and business teams.  ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  Serve as data protection subject matter legal and compliance expert to cybersecurity, legal, services and global product teams. Provide advice and counsel on relevant global privacy and security laws, standards and policies, with a primary focus on security.  Assist and advise commercial counsel with the evaluation and negotiation of data protection contract terms and conditions. Research and determine applicability and obligations of security regulations and frameworks, with a particular focus on security regulations of the European Union such as NIS2, DORA, Cyber Resilience Act and the Critical Entities Resilience Act.    Research, understanding and advising on security control frameworks promulgated by applicable cybersecurity competent authorities or agencies.   Participate in incident response activities. Participate in cybersecurity and privacy assessments of Motorola Solutions, products and services to advise on the privacy and security compliance implications and develop ways to mitigate compliance risks. Provide proactive and creative legal guidance on data protection compliance risks in connection with the launch of new products and services.  Maintain expertise in global data protection laws, with a focus on European Union security laws, and advise on the impact to MSI and its products and services. Develop and provide training to internal teams regarding compliance with security laws, regulations and standards. Provide reports as directed or requested to keep senior management and other groups informed of the operation and progress of the Data Protection - Products team compliance efforts.

Basic Requirements

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school Undergraduate degree in a technology discipline highly desired. Admitted to a bar association with authorization to practice within the member state in which the employee works. Minimum 7 years of work experience as an attorney for private law firm and/or as in-house counsel; direct experience advising global product, service and/or engineering teams on integrating privacy and security into operations, products and services Work experience in a technical capacity for a SaaS, PaaS, IaaS or hybrid (cloud and on-premise) software and services provider highly desired Prior experience with incident response desired CIPP/E, CIP, CIPM and/or AIGP certification desired Security certification (CISSP, CIPM, CCSP, GSEC, Security+, or other security certification evidencing competence in a security field) highly desired Working knowledge of global security and privacy laws and standards, particularly EU laws such as NIS2, DORA, Cyber Resilience Act and the Critical Entities Resilience
