About this role

As a Senior Hardware Performance Test Engineer, you will be leading a team of cross-discipline test engineers to define, implement and execute tests of end-to-end highly complex ML system design involving CPU, DDR memory, storages, specialized ML ASICS and high-speed interconnects. You will also be responsible for liaison between Hardware (HW) engineering teams and the lab team to ensure lab resources are accounted for and to ensure we are ‘lab-ready’ for new products entering the Research and Development (R&D) labs or sustaining efforts. In addition you will help to manage lab budget, hiring, performance management, and the well-being of the team as well as ensuring the labs are well organized and providing a safe working environment. Our Platforms Infrastructure Engineering team designs and builds the hardware and software technologies that power all of Google's services. Our computational challenges are complex and unique, enabled by cutting-edge custom hardware designed and made in-house. As a hardware engineer, you will design and build the systems that are the heart of the world's largest and most powerful computing infrastructure. You will see those systems from concept all the way through to high-volume manufacturing. Your work has the potential to shape the machinery that goes into our cutting-edge data centers, affecting millions of Google users.Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Design network, power and cooling infrastructure for end-to-end system testing. Drive development of test software and infrastructure required for managing a fleet of test systems at scale to avoid manual configuration and test execution. Develop quality data collection systems and visualization of the data (i.e., measurements). Provide integrated Software (SW) to synchronize test execution on Device-under-Test (DUT) with external smart measurement instrumentation. Contribute within a team of hardware/software designers, test engineers, on project planning within hardware development labs, ensuring adequate resources are met as required.

Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a specialized field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP, etc.), or equivalent practical experience. 4 years of experience working in a hardware development lab technical environment, or 3 years of experience with an advanced degree. 3 years of experience with Linux and software scripting languages (i.e., Python). Experience with hardware evaluation methodologies, including lab measurements, performance monitoring, test automation, and data analysis. Preferred qualifications: Experience with Linux or other Unix operating systems (e.g., Ubuntu or RHEL) and shell scripts. Demonstrated proficiency in more than one discipline related to hardware test, hardware qualification, and manufacturing (e.g., signal integrity, power circuit testing, optical testing, network testing, scripting, and hardware (HW) test execution automation using Python). Understanding of computer systems: physical, functional, logical, mechanical, electrical, software, thermal etc. Ability to read and understand technical drawings such as schematics, datasheets, and written work instructions.
