We are seeking a PRN Adult Inpatient Psychiatrist to join a behavioral health hospital in Petersburg, Virginia. This independent contractor role offers flexible employment structure, and a fully staffed support team, allowing you to focus on delivering high-quality inpatient psychiatric care while leading a collaborative treatment team. Quick Facts Employment Type: PRN (Independent Contractor) • Schedule / Hours: weekend call coverage • Call: weekend rounding and/or overnight call • Patient Volume: Adult and Adolescent inpatient caseload (manageable, team-supported) • Location: Petersburg, VA (Richmond metro area) • Practice Setting: Inpatient Behavioral Health Hospital (Adult, Military or Adolescent Unit) • Support / Care Team: Psychiatrists, APPs, nursing staff, therapists, case managers Responsibilities Provide inpatient psychiatric care to adult and adolescent patients with mental health and substance use disorders • Conduct admission evaluations and develop individualized treatment plans • Lead multidisciplinary treatment teams to ensure coordinated care • Manage patient care, including medication management and progress evaluations • Collaborate with physicians, APPs, and clinical support staff • Document patient care, treatment plans, and clinical updates Compensation & Benefits • Competitive per-contact contractor model Qualifications MD or DO from an accredited medical school • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry • Active or eligible Virginia medical license • Minimum of 4 years of training/practice experience • Inpatient psychiatry experience preferred • Meets credentialing requirements for medical staff Growth & Development Leadership opportunities within the inpatient program • Collaborative environment with experienced behavioral health professionals • Career advancement within a national healthcare system About the Organization & Community Poplar Springs Hospital has served the greater Richmond region for nearly 45 years, providing comprehensive psychiatric and addiction treatment services across diverse patient populations.
