Job Summary
The Materials Consultant serves as the subject matter expert responsible for the strategic oversight, optimization, and governance of material management practices supporting Transmission Lines & Substation projects. This role coordinates strategy across sourcing, warehousing, yard operations, and surplus/return material management. The successful candidate will work cross-functionally with Construction, Engineering, Supply Chain, Facilities, Transportation, Suppliers, Real Estate, and Yard Operators to ensure project material readiness, mitigate scheduling risks, and optimize project material staging. The successful candidate will lead the development of material staging strategies, process improvements, and visibility frameworks that enhance project material traceability, reduce waste, and support yard utilization planning. Additionally, the role advises executive and project leadership on supply chain vulnerabilities, programmatic issues, and infrastructure needs related to project material yard expansion and optimization. Core Areas of Expertise & Responsibilities: Strategic Materials Positioning. Provide expert level evaluation of project material utilization, coordination and forecasting to ensure alignment with long term project demands. Provide strategic guidance for PMO on staging and scheduling of material deliveries, minimizing costs and maximizing availability. Lead root cause analysis and resolution of complex project operation constraints; advise leadership on risks and recommended mitigations. Shape tactical sourcing strategies and strengthen internal stakeholders to support both current and future Electric Transmission project needs. Regional Storage Yard (RSY) Program Leadership: Serve as the organizational authority on RSY operations, security standards, equipment approval, and long-range yard planning. Drive programmatic improvements across all RSYs, including maintenance oversight, security response standards, and operational governance. Lead strategic planning and evaluation for establishing new RSY's addressing inquiries from Construction and guiding cross functional decision-making. Partner with Real Estate leadership to evaluate, secure, and operationalize RSY and project specific yard locations; act as the primary consultant and point of escalation. Facilitate Business Unit material requests if demands can be fulfilled more efficiently. Yard Utilization Strategy & Material Flow Optimization. Develop and implement advanced strategies for project-driven material coordination and movement that enhance efficiency, reduce risk, and safeguard critical assets throughout the project life cycle. Create governance, discipline, and criteria for yard space utilization, maintenance, and assessing the status of project material (available, aged, damaged, surplus). Provide advisory support on managing aged materials caused by project delays and recommend life-cycle strategies to prevent degradation or financial loss. Return Material Governance & Waste Reduction. Lead the redesign and oversight of return material processes to reduce waste, increase visibility of undocumented materials, ensure compliance with formal procedures, and establish project prioritization.
